I like that you have Gateways in there, totally underrated and one of MA's best.

I probably wouldn't put Devourment so high up, but if i did it would be Butcher the Weak.

Earlier Death albums would be more deserving as well (ahead of Symbolic i mean).

The Ten Commandments from Malevolent Creation should be in there instead of Retribution.

I'll pass on all of these. Bizarre choice for a Bolt Thrower album by the way. I'd rank that one... 5th in BT's catalog, I think. The Cannibal Corpse album is a really, really weird choice too... that's quite possibly my least favorite of all Cannibal Corpse albums.

Still, I'd rather have LHP and LaES and even Dark Recollections represent swedish death than two Entombed albums.

That'll stop lists from having 4 Death albums and 3 Morbid Angel albums. I dont know, just would like to see more diversity in these types of lists, so things like The Key dont slip through the cracks.

And shame on you Krow for not keeping that Gorguts album. It's a fucking gem. I'd have to throw in "Here in After" by Immolation and "Immortal Throne of Nazarene" by Incantation. I'd take out gay shit like Hate Eternal and Origin and put something else in. Also, Vile is a fucking weird Cannibal Corpse album to choose, if you even choose any at all.

This list needs more Master. Slaughter too if you want to count them.

Left Hand Path might be the worst of the classic SweDeath canon. Beyond Sanctorum, The Red In The Sky Is Ours, Like An Everflowing Stream, Where No Life Dwells, The Nocturnal Silence, Spiritually Uncontrolled Art... even Dark Recollections and Nihilist '87-'89 and the Carbonized debut are better in my eyes.

I'd probably only consider 25-30 of these essential - there really aren't 40 essential death metal albums unless you allow repeats (hello Blessed, Mortal Throne, Deicide, Enjoy The Violence, Piece Of Time, etc.)

The Rack should be on the list. Besides being great it's easily one if not the most kvlt album recorded. I agree with the shitty modern tech death like Necrophagist, sounds like video games and has nothing in commen with what is Death Metal at all.

Interesting to see someone mention Unleashed `where no life dwells'. I love old Unleashed and find the first four albums to be essential death metal. No one ever mentions any of their early albums within Death Metal classics. Despite the bands popularity and recognition.
