Sonic Syndicate and Thy Will Be Done. they both pretty much suck, particularly Sonic Syndicate. if Decapitated was still playing, i'd have considered going, but $20 for Amon Amarth + 2 shitty bands, as well as a drive of about an hour each way.....hell no.

I'd drive 2 hours and pay $20 for Death In Fire alone.

Your self-chosen screen name is "WarriorOfMetal" and you're blowing off Amon Amarth's first headline set in the U.S. because it's an hour ride? Wow... I can't even decide how to respond to that. So, feel free to choose your favorite:

1. Those one hour rides can be a bitch on heavy flow days.

2. The Y Chromosome called and it wants its testicles back.

3. That statement is so gay, it just sodomized your previous three posts while listening to Pain of Salvation.

Wow, Zod, don't hold back - tell us how you really feel.
What can I say, his comment, in combination with his screen name, just struck me as funny. If your screen name is "Princess of Prog", you can blow off Amon Amarth over a one hour drive. But "Warrior Of Metal"?

Obviously my comments are meant to be taken with a grain of salt. But then again, when aren't they?

I wish I could say I was a fan of theirs for a while, but frankly I never gave them the time of day. I only checked them out due to the tragedy, and I kick myself now for not listening previously.

While I dont really care for Decapitated or any of the current openers. However I would gladly drive one or even 2 hours just for Amon Amarth headlining, I however live in BFN (BUTT FUCKING NOWHERE) so I gotta a min of 9 hours driving. I dont think that will happen.

I would have gone with #1.

I'm driving 2hrs each way, by myself, on a weeknight, just to see Amon Amarth. Hell, I drove 4 Fuckin' Hours both ways to see Nightwish in Worcester, and didn't get home until 7am.

Edit: It really pisses me off when people live in the major markets and complain about having to drive an hour for a show. There are alot of people who be totally psych'd to only have to drive an hour to see a show. Don't take for granted your "Metal Opportunities."

I'll be at the Philly show which is about a two hour trek, but AMON AMARTH headlining is the shit! I was lucky enough to see DECAPITATED with FEAR FACTORY, SUFFOCATION, and HYPOCRISY. I'm not a FF fan per se, but the other three were more than worth it!

the thing is, i'm actually not that familiar with Amon Amarth's material, having only heard The Crusher, With Oden on Our Side, and a couple other songs. i'm not that crazy about spending $20 to see a band i'm not terribly familiar with when i don't like the openers, especially when i'm short on cash in general.

i just saw Therion last friday who i'm not particularly familiar with, but i went because i wanted to see Burning Shadows and Division....plus i was in town already.

Well hey, if your broke, your broke.

You should definitely give Amon Amarth some serious spins. Especially "With Oden on Our Side" and "vs. the World". Both are superb CDs. To me, they are the best that genre has to offer.

And by the way, thanks for recognizing that I was only busting your balls in a friendly manner. Some people take things way too seriously on the interwebs.:kickass:

Whenever I'm sitting on my ass and thinking "meh....I'm tired....I don't know if I really care enough to drive into the city to see that show...", I tell myself "C'mon Neil, do it for the less fortunate!" Doesn't always work, but sometimes it does, and if it doesn't, then I at least flagellate myself for not knowing how good I have it.

yeah, if i was familiar enough with Amon Amarth to the point where i was really into them, i'd definitely go....but i generally don't enjoy shows quite as much if i'm not familiar with a band's material, unless they're exceptionally good, and as a poor 22-year-old who just spent a few hundred dollars on PPUSA and then drove down to the DC area for almost a week less than a month later, it's not exactly easy to justify going without other bands to interest me. paying for parking doesn't help either

i'll check out Versus the World when i get a chance, but unless a friend begs me to drive them to the show, another good band is added, or i suddenly come into a good bit more cash, i probably still won't be going :p
