Chickenfoot

Maiden covered Montrose ? Cool! I knew when I first heard Maiden that they grew up listening to some of the same stuff I did.

I had high hopes for this, but I was left feeling hugely underwhelmed.
This album was the first time I had heard a Satch solo that didn't sound right in the context of the music.

Yeah, it's a really good cover too. They also covered "Space Station #5" from the S/T album and "Communication Breakdown" by Led Zeppelin, both of which are also really good. As I remember, they made all of them available on the "Best of the B-Sides" CD a little while back... Unfortunately, the CD was only available in the now hard to find "Eddie's Archive" box :erk:...

Those B-sides were available in the Castle Communications reissues. I got those and yes they covered Montrose, Led Zeppelin, Golden Earring, Thin Lizzy, Jethro Tull and more.

I had most of those Maiden covers on tape back in the day. Oh, to have them now...

Anyway, I was a little let down by the Chickenfoot album on first listen. I love Satch and Hagar was my favorite VH vocalist plus his solo and Montrose stuff. I did listen to it again the other day when I was out in the sun grilling and liked it much better. I think in time it could grow on me a lot more.

I'm not sure if all of these songs were recorded from scratch when they got together or if this is a compilation of a pile of ideas from guys who were excited to be working together. In any case, I expect the next one to be more varied and really shine with each members individual talents.

They wrote them from scratch from what I remember... You can find places to download those Maiden covers if you look hard enough, maybe try a torrent download or something like that.

Did Maiden ever cover Heep ? Just wondering because that peddling gallop reminded me of how Heep went about their chuggin in the early days... though its kind of hard to get the right sound without a overdriven Hammond.

Not as far as I know. But they covered Jethro Tull without a flute, so maybe with the proper arrangement they could play 'Look At Yourself' or 'Easy Livin'.

Look at Yourself would be best for me, they probably dont have the vocals to do Shadows of Grief, wait thats keyboard layden anyhow. By coincidence one of my bands played Easy Livin without keys and Crosseyed Mary without flute, fun songs to play
