Blatantly influenced by Iron Maiden, Iron Miaden, and er, Iron Maiden, Area 54's 2000 debut "NVS" was surprisingly well-recieved given their abre faced raiding of the Iron's back catalogue. But, perplexingly numerous critics have continued to heap an inordinate amount of praise on Area 54 and raised the expextation for "BoTE".
The main thrust of the band's advocates seems to be that Area 54 are British and play what can only be described as traditional 80's metal. But once you getover the compelling, need to encourage them because of their nationality, the simple truth remains that Area 54 offer little more than recycled pub rock.
Although they can be forgiven for such thievery on their debut, there;s really no defence for continuing to exhibit such a shameless inclination further on into their career.
Musically they're adequate, but virtually every song is a memory test to try to recall where you've heard that riff before;'Living A Lie', for example, is a variation of Maiden's "Aces High". Lakis Kyriacou is limited vocally, with his wavering delivery of the ballad "Another Life" especially clumsy.

Does that media guy suck cock or what!? which f*ckin version of Living A Lie has he heard?! it sounds nothing like Aces High. What a dick! :(
I can't stand people who slate other people's music like that. I wonder how many people wanna buy his albums the tit (some one help calm me down!)

I've been recieving Classic Rock magazine for almost 2 years now and if it wasn't for CR magazine I wouldn't be into Area 54, but this guy is just taking the piss. I have decided to cancel my subscription. :(

54 kick ass :D :hotjump: And if yawl would like to join me in a bombardment of hate mail towards Classic Rock..feel free :tickled: lol

I agree slasher, living a lie sounds nothing like Aces High and the fact the people keep comparing 54 with Maiden, isn't that a good thing? Maiden are one of the most respected bands in metal and if I was 54, I would be proud to be even compared to them.

Reviews in my opinon are biased and I have never liked them I prefer to judge music for myself, not by what other people say...

as for Hate Mail.....go for it lol :headbang:

People are entitled to opinions, but this guy sounds like he hasn't even listened to the album more than once. And that was probably while jerking off to some porn.

I love Maiden, but I don't think Harris would ever write songs anything like 54's, neither do I think McBrain would ever play like Mr Hillman. Shit, I'd be suprised if McBrain *could* play like Mr Hillman.

Dumb asses.

I find it ironic that CR criticise 54 for leaning on classic metal formulas when their own success as a magazine is based on people's love for that style of music.

And if NVS or BOTE are nothing but recycled Maiden riffage, I'll suck my own ballsack.

who was the reviewer?

that means both cr and mh have attacked my favourite studio album and my favourite live album of this year, least i don't waste my money buying them

Blaze Bayley said, at the Blaze gig on Fri, that cr managed to get the tracklisting for ALAIG completely wrong, and he reckoned they didnt listen to it, so it wouldnt surprise me if cr didnt listen to BotE either.

Ant.

I have this song and it is not even remotley like Aces High. WTF?! That Maiden line is crap too...they are much more Megadeth like. ;)

Living a Lie = Aces High...............yeah right

I can't see area 54 ever sounding like maiden. The only similiar thing is the fact that they have harmonys and even they sound completly different.

Anyway, i'm of to the pub. A band from Ilford are playing :p

People have often made comparrisons with 54 and Maiden...I can see where people are coming from because of the harmony in the solo's and stuff but to take it as far to say one of 54 tracks sounds exact as "so'n'so" by Maiden is just taking the biscuit:)

enjoy the gig you lucky booger:hotjump:
