Classics Reborn

Wait....what band was he in again?

Speaking of "what band was he from?" (I know this has nothing to do with the previous conversation by my timing was prefect :p )

http://www.blabbermouth.net/news/tw...t-and-foreigner-have-turned-into-cover-bands/

I don't think the only "twisted" thing here is the sister. Jay Jay's losing his marbles!. Dee held TS together for years and even he didn't do a stellar job the whole time. Jay Jay might well have been a reasonable guitarist but even he's been playing in a TS cover band for the last 20 years.

To me the thing with TS is that..yes you sound good, but you better! because nothing they do is challenging as a musician at all. It's all basic shit. It's harder to run around and entertain people when you're playing something that requires more than two chords. The one thing I agree with is the Stones. But I've never ever liked them so I don't think it counts lol

I'm not a Stones fan but I give them due respect for still being alive and capable of doing what they do at 145. :)

I've been a TS fan since their early days and I own all but Still Hungry (the re-released Stay Hungry), I even own their Chrissie album which I think is a great sing along. I could once recite the names of all those in the band and I think I knew every song word for word. But they faded long before the Chrissie album was released, their performances were not overly strong and without Dee at the front the band just wasn't there, at times even Dee seemed not to be there. To can the bands he did the way he did I think Jay Jay is caught up in his 80's hype rather than living in today's world.

Are they still doing it though? lol. Serious question.

I liked TS, I grew up with them as one of my first heavy bands. But hard to play it isn't lol. So I think it's easy to entertain with music like that. And that's fine. But when he's saying shit like they out do Maiden...Maiden is a whole other level of technical.

According to Jay Jay the band 'official' called it quits 2 years ago but I honestly don't know what they've done in the past 10 years. Dee's been in the news on and off over the years for heaps of different performances but I actually thought they were solo gigs or special appearances not TS shows so who knows.

Yeah suggesting they put on a better show than Maiden is a bit rich I don't think I have ever seen a performance of theirs better than even a bad Maiden show.

As I said I've got the Chrissie album so I knew they were active in the mid 2000's but I didn't know they were actually gigging, I thought they gave up after Big Hits and Nasty cuts in the 90's then reformed for the Chrissie album. Maybe they did and Jay Jay just thought they were still a band and the guy who looked like their lead singer who was performing with other musos was actually a dress up doll.

I figured they came out of retirement for the cash grab and they gave them 'active' status for 12 months while they did it. I think they also 'reformed' as wiki calls it for their anniversary years. But from what Jay Jay seems to say all those years in between were active too. Maybe he's got a different dictionary to everyone else and to him active means waking up in the morning.

I remember when AJ died they did a benefit gig for his family so maybe they were 'active' then too.

Generally I wouldn't either but I think as both bands get older the audiences of both have realised they have one thing in common. Age!

Earlier JP is more closely related to DP than the stuff of later years but I suppose both being Poms, both having a similar spanning careers and both still being hugely popular would give them reason to think a tour would work. I don't think it will be a world tour though.

I don't know what Foreigner have done in the last 20 years, I have seen them in the news but I was never really a fan so I haven't read anything about them.

JP have had their times in the dark and for many different reasons but you're right they have been relatively consistent. Deep Purple not so much although they still do have a massive fan base and a fan base that keeps buying their records. I'd have to look up the release dates but I have a feeling DP have released more albums this decade than JP has too. But none of that makes a definite case for who is more popular.

Yeah they probably have, but they have also been producing and playing whereas a lot of bands of their time only come out of the woodwork on anniversaries. DP released a solid album last year but a lot of the stories about them always seem to revolve around their in fighting which just gets boring.

Yeah it wasn't anything earth shattering but it was typical Purple and had some classic Purple music on it.
