Classics Reborn

Haven't you heard of our infamous Crocobulls? They're an amphibious creature with big teeth that comes in every morning to be milked :p

Our little Jack Russell was brilliant, he loved being around people, loved going for a ride in any vehicle but loved the truck and the bulldozer the most. He used to go with us everywhere and one whistle and he was back at our feet. We've never had such a loyal mutt as that little bugger.

I dunno, over the years I've heard about some weird animals that some cultures milk, a crocobull might not be that bad you know!

Nah see I didn't describe it properly, it's a bull's head, horns, big nose and all, and a female crocodiles body, so milking it not really as bad as it sounds. Although with such a big head they don't float too well.

I'm putting this here because I decided some of it is classic related. I have finished going through the Armored Saint disco and I am in agreement with others. Armored Saint is a cool band and well worth listening too.

I still think Sound Of White Noise is one of the best Anthrax albums because of John's vocals (not so much on the other albums he sang on though) and that same vocal style is prominent throughout the Saint collection. He's a good singer and not bad when it comes to penning lyrics and the music of Saint is obviously written with him in mind. Delirious Nomad and Raising Fear are probably my favourite albums and Win Hands Down is pretty good too. The copy of Symbol Of Salvation I borrowed had three discs and I didn't listen to the second and third disc, I also didn't get a copy of the live albums but the rest of the collection is great and when it comes to heavy metal it's well worth looking through the disco and weighing it up against other bigger bands of the time because they stack up really well and have earned the respect many give them.

I'm happy I listened to them all rather than just the few songs I had heard. I'm not sure which ones I'm going to buy yet but my next mail order will probably include 2 maybe 3 of their albums.

That's cool. I really will have to check more of them out because I have always thought of them as more straight up metal than something heavier like Thrash. But that's based on very little listening.

I never know what genres to put things in but I don't think they'd be classed as thrash, and I think that's why many didn't see John as a suitable singer for Anthrax. I suppose it could be argued that Scott and Charlie didn't write music for John, but then it was their band, just like Saint is John's band and the songs do suit him.

Maybe that's it. Maybe they just weren't thrashy enough for me. Especially hearing that that is who Metallica wanted to sing instead of James. I expected heavier I think. But like I said. That isn't based on much.

Obviously impossible to tell what Metallica would be like with John singing but based on their earlier albums I don't think John's voice would have suited Master of Puppets or Ride The Lightning. James has more of a grumble, he sounds like he's grumpier, if anything John's a lot more upbeat. John probably would have been suited more to something like the black album where songs are still heavy but not out and out thrash.

Oh yeah, there really is no point in separating James and Larz, they are a match made in heaven. They love each other, I'm sure they practise making 'stage' faces at each other and they both grumble and growl like children. John just isn't suited to that.

I really should have given them more of a go a long time ago. Still not sure why I didn't, there really is nothing to dislike about the band and John is a good leader.
