With what release did Katatonia turn towards cleaner vocals?
Somewhere betweeen Brave Murder Day and Tonight's Decision, I guess, as those are the only two I've heard.

Thanks for any input. Katatonia is new to me...

Welcome!
The first full-length album with clean vocals was Discouraged Ones, indeed released between BMD and TD. In some places it's hard to get nowadays since the distributor went broke.

What a good question, I was wondering the same thing myself...I'm new to Katatonia as well. A friend who knew how much I loved Sentenced tipped me off to this incredible band.

Thus far, I've heard only "Discouraged Ones" and "Tonight's Decision." What's funny is after lurking and reading a bunch of people say that DO is tough to find sometimes, I realized that it was the FIRST one I got, purely by chance. I must have just seen it in the store and grabbed. Incidentally, it's the album that made me love this band! Anyway, just wanted to say hey.

Oh yeah, if I have those 2 thus far, which disc should I grab next?

If you just have those two, Last Fair Deal Gone Down would probably be best. It is in the same vein as the two you own.

The full length debut, Dance of Decembre Souls is doomy black metal. Raspy vocals throughout and quite good. Their best is Brave Murder Day, with Mikeal Akerfeldt taking over all growled vocals and Jonas Renske concentrating on clean vocals. Also, you might want to get Sounds of Decay, which is a 3-song EP in the same vein as Brave Murder Day.

Discouraged Ones came after Brave Murder Day.

Also, Katatonia are planning the release of a compilation which will have their famous demo as well as three hard to find EP on it.

The End has most of these I believe. THe US copy of Brave Murder Day includes the 'For Funerals to Come' EP

Thanks Dream, but you know how I do things...I'll probably buy them ALL in one fell swoop!

I do want to hear the stuff with the growly vocals. If it's anywhere even close to early Paradise Lost, Love History, MDB, Sentenced, it's up my alley. No, not that alley you sicko!
