Although, classifying this band's genre has always been hard, so maybe I think that some people maybe are just defining like "power" that kind of "happy-ish sound" that sometimes we can hear in some songs. But who knows.
I could care less whether or not Alexi agrees with it. He's wrong here. Genres are necessary in music. It helps to keep things organized, and it helps when trying to look for bands similar to a specific one.Enmity said:why do people even try to classify them?? It is so dumb, and even alexi agrees with it and has stated many times that he just calls it "metal", plain and simple. When you have to sit around and try to classify something it makes you look dumb. Listen to what you like, and who cares what genre it is.
Are you fucking drunk or something? About the black people listening to metal yes, I've done, and even seen black people playing metal (Sepultura sounds familiar?), and about Bodom metal as a genre, I am seriously astounded noone has already jumped on you seeing how way less over the top posts by you ahve been flamed to death
I do agree with you that Bodom's style can't be compared to any other band (everytime the discusion about Bodom not beeing original I bring up the question of someone telling me a band that sounds like them nowadays and still have no response), but from there to starting a whole genre there's a lot IMO. Don't take this as an attack or as something personal, I tend to agree with you, but you shocked me this time.

^It's hard to take that as a joke with how prolific black people are in metal. Even besides Sepultura, there's also Suffocation, God Forbid, Killswitch Engage, Sevendust, Madball.....I could keep going, but I won't. (And I really don't care how you feel about the genre classification of the bands I listed, they still play heavy music)
Yes, I can see your point... but still, I can't find any bit of power in their music, so I prefer not using the word "power" to subsitute a word that I can't see as suitable to define CoB's genre. As I said, Bodom is really a fusion of like, 4 or 5 genres. But they do have power metal influences in their sound, IMO.
Here's how I'd classify each album (yeah, I know I said I'd stopped trying... but I actually gave it some thought):
SW - Neoclassical metal, with melo-death and slight black metal influences.
HB - Melo-death/power
FTR - Melo-death/power
HCDR - Melo-death, with slight metalcore and industrial influences
AYDY - Melo-death, with metalcore and thrash influences
BD - Thrash, with metalcore influences
Yesh, and I understand someone is curious to know what genre it may be, I've been there before, but in the end I think we might have to call their music as "metal" only.I never have either. I don't really get where that comes from.

And so, until the CoB guys come up and state what specific genre they play, I think it'll be enough.
I mean, if you like some music and you enjoy it, who cares what kind of genre it belongs to? Just as long as you like it, no worries... well, unless some people are afraid to say what music they like, then it's their problem, and lots of people I know are that way but oh well.
Ever witnessed a black person listening to metal music? I haven't and that's why I don't buy Alexi's joke of COB being gupsy metal. Joke
I believe the term Bodom metal will become more or less official in time as they're state of the art in what they do. True
So yea, I take that as attack. It's just sad to see this becoming another thread with every member giving their analyzis what kind of thrash/melodeath/core/punk/heavy/death combo each of COB's albums are. :Smug:

Whoever said CoB was Power Metal needs to get raped.
