I've seen that before, hence why I say I hate his vibrato. Obviously you disagree, but I'm more into Paul Gilbert/Alexi/Zakk Wylde /Yngwie Malmsteen type vibrato.

And Alexi plays sloppy sometimes too, but his pick attack and tone make up for it by making it sound much better.

I love Zakk Wylde's bends and vibrato.

I think Jani's vibrato is decent but not as great as Alexi's or anyone Mitch mentioned.
I really hate his guitar sound though.

Jani was much more melodic and tasteful prior to Reckoning Night. From there forward his solos began to be more about playing fast and less about melody. In their prime I would rank Alexi and Jani pretty evenly. Neither of them are notable for their vibrato, but honestly I don't consider that to be a very big factor in ranking a guitarist, least not in the realm of heavy metal.

I completely agree.

Jani is clearly very skilled in terms of technical ability, and is by no means a bad musician in terms of melody either. He just seems to have have become less and less interesting. Which is what separates the great musicians from the legion of shredders who may be able to keep up with (or even do better than, technically) the pros, but don't know how to be engaging. Knowing how to write/compose well is far more important than pure technicality.

Woah! Seems I sparked a debate, I'll take that back in part, I personally prefer Jani to Alexi. However I was watching/listenig to some of alexi's playing and have to admit that they are on par, I just don't like his later solos that sound similar. Also to Mitch, you cannot compare Alexi's weak vibrato to Zakk Wylde or Paul Gilbert.
Also I like jani's tone:lol: Am I the only one, I don't like Alexi's weak tone- great for lucid leads, sucks ass at rhythm, prefer Jani's dimarzio combination, but I guess I'm a fanboy :)

Well this has nothing to do with the discussion above. But I just found this and I hadn't seen it before, so I wanted to share in case some of you haven't seen it either.
