OK, I cheat right off the bat, sorry. This guys popular but you dont hear him mentioned much around here. I just believe him to be the most natural guitar player ever. You dont see him staring at the fretboard, not alot of wild stage antics, he just feels it and goes with it. Best thing about this particular song is you get two legendary guitar players for the price of one.

some of my favorites:

two of the kings together (actually just saw this for the first time a few weeks ago):

johnson again (one of my favorite solos, ever, and such killer tone):
[ame]http://youtube.com/watch?v=rnCfxN7r4qY[/ame]

could've picked almost any guthrie video...my choice here is just incidental
[ame]http://youtube.com/watch?v=qS4Tf9gwCgw[/ame]

Great playing, AMAZING tone
[ame]http://youtube.com/watch?v=jrHy2o_Q-Fk[/ame]

andy again:

metheny
[ame]http://youtube.com/watch?v=EN7YHbQjwjo[/ame]

ted greene, amazing sense of harmony and completely improvised which makes this all the more mindblowing...this guy is unreal:
[ame]http://youtube.com/watch?v=zDuee6blvj8[/ame]

frank vignola best gyspy-jazz player since Django....birelli who?:

[ame]http://youtube.com/watch?v=Mlk3QOJYUIw[/ame]

speaking of django, this is awesome....django was such an important guitarist and video footage is so rare, can't overlook this:

[ame]http://youtube.com/watch?v=ebaYm65RC5Q[/ame]

holdsworth :worship:
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XnKre5B2x5g&feature=related[/ame]

antoine dufour...this kind of playing has gotten kind of gimmicky in the past couple of years, but nevertheless this guy is great. He's got a lot of tunes like this that I can just put on and end up in a trance....very dreamy. Check out the video for his song "memories of the future" too.

maybe I'll post some good classical guitar videos later....I think I've posted more than my share for now:lol::erk:

A little Michael Schenker from his hey day.

Often overlooked, great player...Chris Poland

[ame]http://youtube.com/watch?v=mv5Cvb8jGFI[/ame]

His album Chasing The Sun is one of my favorite instrumental recordings.

Some gorgeous playing by Shawn Lane

Gary Moore doing Roy Buchanan's The Messiah Will Come Again
[ame]http://youtube.com/watch?v=lWp-Mazmf88[/ame]
Check out those guitar faces...Ha!

that's my favorite Schenker performance

(sadly, this is NOT one of those overdubbed videoes that is supposed to be funny)

I really like Poland's stuff with Ohm.....I couldn't stand his playing in megadeth and I don't like his solo cd (return to metalopolis is the name of the one I've heard...don't know if he has others), but the Ohm stuff is downright killer.

Yeah...we've all seen that Schenker video...that's a shame...what a disgusting mess.

Poland's Chasing the Sun is awesome...I'm not crazy about Return to Metropolis either. I think he has a unique style...you can certainly pick him out of the crowd.

Meedles...in response to your video posts.

I love Eric Johnson...I discovered him in the mid 80's or whenever he did his first Austin City Limits...I went right out to find Tones...his tone, his note choices, his versatility, that strange way he times his solos...I dig him big time! I have to say, I finally saw him live last year and I was sorely disappointed...maybe he just had a bad night, or was off because he didn't raid Michael Jackson's wardrobe or the Duran, Duran wig collection.

Govan...no need for comments.:heh:

Django...same, no comments needed...a very important figure...I like Charlie Christian better from that era, but he's not quite a gypsy, is he?

Holdsworth...I cannot extract any emotion from his playing....never could, never will...just not my thing...of course he's a great musician.

Metheny doing Norah jones...interesting.

Can't remember the rest right now.

Metheny doing Jones, excellent match, was what I was going to say last night. Cafe Del Mar, when less is more.

Holdsworth is very abstract, maybe hes like modern free form jazz, that was always some very abstract stuff, the piano players were... I dont know ? I dont know how they came up with the stuff, Im was never sure if its genious or just bazarre. I guess its... its own feel.

Reviving the thread as opposed to making a new one...here are some I've had in rotation lately:

Andy Timmons' "cry for you"- beautiful song and this might be my favorite performance of it.

[ame]http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=tGM6Exo_oVk[/ame]

Tom Quayle- one of the finalists at the recent "guitar idol" show over in England. Sadly, he didn't place. He was, imo, the best player there and without a doubt the most musically/technically advance. Not the best tune, but killer improv. I'm disappointed he didn't place, but understandably he isn't the right kind of player for a show/competition like that.

Nice Meedles.

Two of my all time favorite players together doing a tune from Larry Carlton's first solo album and the first album that opened my mind beyond hard rock and metal.

Great stuff! I especially enjoy those Shawn Lane videos. He was such a gifted player.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Brett Garsed. He's probably had more impact on me than any other guitarist.

Edit: Wow Meedley, I just got to the Tom Quayle video. He reminds me of Greg Howe a lot.

Oh no, the George Puleo fan club has arrived, not the quality of these other videos, but

No way! Just found this guy, never heard of him. He may have DiMeola, Paco, SRV, Setzler, and ____ name the country player all rolled into one and challenged from the clips I just viewed.

My only beef with Brett is that while he's an amazing player he's not someone I listen to a full album of. Great playing, but his tunes just don't do it for me most of the time. His records are still well worth listening too, both for his playing and TJ's though.

Yeah, Tom Quayle is the man. He's definitely got some Howe in him. I just wish the Guitar Idol crowd/judges had either A) not bothered with him in the first place, since he's clearly not what they were looking for stylistically or B) been a bit more varied in their tastes.
