Personally, I think it's funny...it's good to see that they can goof around and have fun in concert. :)

That's cool. Unlike Dream Theater where you can substitute trees with instruments and no one would know.

This is discounting the fact that I see them play for close to 4 hours in NYC whenever DT comes around. I simply find SX to be a superior band at this point. They do heavy better.

At least these guys like each other, DT kind of just packs and goes their own ways until they have to record and tour again.

wow...completely out of context.....good job

Having seen both bands, i can say that neither have an overwhelming stage presence, its the music itself that does it for both. THe only member of SX that really had a dominant stage present was Russel, other than that they werent anymore exciting to watch than DT. I however think both are great live bands so that certainly wasn't a negative comment.

Anyway back on topic...........cool picture indeed. I remember Russel joking around with some fans who were yelling stuff out form the crowd. He seems like a pretty funny guy.

Well, Russell interacts with the crowd, looks like he enjoys himself, even moves around. LaBrie is always so serious and does not look like he enjoys being there. Jordan and MP are the only ones that do. Myung looks miserable up there and JP is like a tree. Doesn't move anymore. Same for LaBrie.

I actually was at the gig when this picture was taken. It was at the Arrow Rock Festival here in Holland last summer. They were the only prog-metal band on the bill (the rest was all classic rock and Yes was headlining), but the reactions of the crowd were extremely good.

i can see where you are coming from, but the only one i half agree with you about is Myung. LaBrie had a great stage presence on the last tour, he looked like he had lost a lot of weight and was extremely energetic on stage. JP might not dance around on stage and all that garbage, but he plays to the crowd and he certainly delivers performance wise. I guess it just depends what you look for in a show. I for one go to shows to hear top quality music performed as perfect as possible. Putting on a good show is nice but not necessary to me. To each his own.

Back in the Majesty days, and even up until (I believe) the Awake tour, Myung moved around like Cliff Burton on crack. If you've seen the Live In Tokyo from the I&W tour, you'll see what I mean.

I don't think a band needs to move around constantly to deliver a good show, though. Symphony X does an awesome job...and not just Russ, either. Romeo always cracks smiles, and he truly looks like he's enjoying himself. Lepond grooves away and flashes half smirks / half smiles at the crowd (it's almost as if he's saying in his head "Yo, I'm from Jersey!"). I don't see much of Jason or P's face, but I'm sure they're enjoying themselves, too.

Yeah, DT has certainly become more conservative on stage these days. My friends would always say "It's really hard to watch a band for three hours when their drummer is the only one with any stage presence." Maybe for some, but I love DT's shows.

To all of you: Have you ever tried to jump or dance and play 16th notes at 160 at the same time? heh. Well, my point is that maybe each of the bands try to avoid mistakes in their playing or singing as much as possible, so they can't goof around all the time.

True. For me, I'd rather see the Symphony X and others hit the right notes rather than run around like some nu-metal clown band.

They did something similar last June in Bologna for Gods of Metal 2004.
Yesterday I was speaking with my girlfriend about SymphonyX and Dream Theater live concerts: both are wornderful, but DT are too serious, while SX have true metallers behaviours! I love Lepond's headbanging!!! :D
