i recently started recording at 44 24 bit (as opposed to 48 24)

and now everytime there's a tempo ramp, i hear pops and clicks.

the problem goes away when i raise the audio buffer on my RME fireface 800

but how am i supposed to record these parts with a high latency?... thats rhetorical, don't answer that

but does anyone have solutions on this?

my setup:
windows xp pro
nuendo 3.2
rme fireface 800

vst settings:
audio priority - very high
preload amount - 2 seconds
lower latency - yes
multi processing - yes
adjust for record latency - no
record placement offset - 0

this problem has also existed the entire time i've used nuendo, but in another form... for instance, having delay (or anything tempo sensitive) engaged on any track during a tempo change will cause a noise artifact in that track

That's a bummer. I have some tempo ramps in a lot of projects I've worked on in Cubase SX3 and Cubase 5 and I've never had a problem no matter what my buffer was set at. Good luck on finding a solution.

No problems there either. (I should have clarified that I used Cubase 4 and now am using Cubase 5)

I just checked on my XP system and did not have any problems. I normally use a mac pro though, but have a PC also

Wow, never heard of that. But the problem goes away when you increase buffer size right? Are you using any of those particular plugins in real-time or for mixing?

Dont know man, This might be a stretch but maybe the project file is jacked up, try and save/export project to another folder.

even with a high buffer, the delay-effect-noises problem still exists (sounds like clipping / crackling)

i've narrowed down the cpu spike to having kontakt 3 enabled and loaded in a project during a tempo ramp (i suspect this will go away when i bounce the vst)

anyone want to let me test c5? i already thought about buying it at once time, even considering upgrading to vista to gain the advantage of having 64 bit / more ram capabilities (i use the EAST WEST play engine, and have to boot to a seperate xp just to use it)

even with high buffer / high latency the delay still screws up

there's a part on the attack attack record where you can still hear it even though i tried really hard to hide it haha.

It's your hard-drive. Make sure you have atleast 25% of free space in each partition. If that doesn't help, get a diagnostic done by some tech pro.

Get the DPC Latency Checker application. Run it, and post what results you're getting on average and max.

I have click and pop issues with Nuendo as well, even on a very streamlined DAW-only dual boot. They don't track, which is fortunate, but they're annoying enough when running real-time impulses and amp sims to piss me off. I always put it down to Nuendo blowing chunks, but it could really be anything, from a background service that's hogging CPU time to a shared IRQ to a bad BIOS setting, to just plain unsuitable hardware for tracking.

joe, a lot of plugins simply aren't designed for live tempo changes, it may be a new vst3 feature, but changing tempo fucks with the delay in podfarm/gearbox for me too, and gives weird noises.

as for the CPU spikes.. it sounds like a poorly designed plugin.. something i wouldn't put passed kontact.

this is a long shot, but try running kontact in jbridge (theres a demo version on that site, and it's pretty cheap)

thanks,

Following on what Andy said...

Are you running anything adat/lightpipe and forget to change that to match your main clock? I know if If my ada800 is not clocked right to my digi002 it makes clicking noise and stuff.
