Cradle of Filth

Actually I kind of enjoy Dimmu Borgirs norweigan albums. And I never called COF "nu metal" or "mainstream", I'd call them goth, and they suck. They suck hard.

lol, that made me laugh so hard... goth comes from the beginning of 80's with wonderful band called bauhaus, which actually came out of.... sex pistols, good old traditional punk. then also comes sisters of mercy, christian death, nosferatu, first few albums of the cure.... and then there are also variations of goth- industrail, and electronic goth- 13 candles, clan of xymox, later called xymox, electric hellfire club, theatre of hate and others.

please quit confusing your genres. Just because they dress up in black, wear black and white makeup doesn't mean they are a goth band....

would you call alexi goth, because he wears eyeliner too??

Sorry for insulting your favourite music genre, but that shit is just stupid. What would you call CoF if not goth?? They sure doesnt fit into any other genre I'm aware of. Its like Venom coined the phrase "black metal" but almost everyone rather use "black metal" for bands like Darkthrone and Gorgoroth, which sound nothing alike Venom.

But I havent heard a single "goth" band that you listen, so I'm not going to argue about it.

And the Alexi eyeliner thing is rather a 80s glamrock thing

^Unhallowed dude, genres are just stuff we apply to things to compare them and categorize them. If a band has to sound excactly like another to fit in that specific genre, you mess up the system. The "Cradle of Filth is not black metal"-thing is just hardcore gr1m & tr00 talk from people who can't cope with their favorite genre evolving.
Concerning the Venom-issue, just read a little history on them and black metal before you state stupid things like that.

Well, CoF have absolutely NOTHING to do with BM at all, but I dont think anyone in this thread said that either.

And what do you mean is stupid with my "statement". As far as i know Venom coined the phrase "Black Metal" with their album in 82 or 83, but nowdays the term Black Metal seems to be about a specific type of music rather than the dark, occult image of the band, which was the thing back then

Pantera also coined the phrase "power metal" in 88 or something, but no one argues that Helloween is power metal?
The thing is, Venom never said they actually played black metal. They did all that stuff just for show, because they wanted to stretch the limits. The term, however, was adopted by all the bands inspired by them a few years later (Mayhem, Darkthrone, Morbid and so on) as a label for the music they were playing. And that's what black metal became. And it has evolved from the sound of early Mayhem and Morbid (and Bathory too) and other bands, to what we hear today from both Dimmu Borgir, 1349, Cradle of Filth and tons of other bands. The key word is "evolved".

Cradle of Filth has just taken things a step further down the road in their direction. The core of their music is still black metal.

Not the song structure, guitar work, keyboards, vocals, atmosphere or lyrics seems to have any influence from black metal to me

@unhallowed: dude, Goth is originally reffering to the bands leprosy said up on her post. THAT'S goth. For some reason, the metal people started to use it again to describe some bands, i don't know why and i really don't give a flying fuck.
But GOTH is about those 80's bands, so she's right. It has nothing to do with metal, it's a punk-offspring.

^Yeah sorry about that, as I said I've never heard any of those bands, and I didnt know where the Goth therm originally came from, my mistake. But CoF sure as hell are not black/death/thrash/speed/heavy/power or doom metal or any other therm I'm aware of that people use to describe a certain type of metal, so what would you people call their style then?

Seams like some are in their identity crisis
So much bullshitting for just different styles of music....

@Unhallowed - you should listen to TheSeldomlaid concerning the BM issue. ;)

I'm not having an identity crisis, just hangover as fuck and got nothing better to do than bullshitting here :D

And of course the Black metal genre has evolved since it started, like almost every other music genre, but Cradle of Filth is not a part of the BM scene

I listen to some CoF, CoB, Nightwish, Motorhead, Marylin Mansion . . . hell even Slipknot!

i respect your opinion but i have never really liked marilyn manson for some reason. I feel he is too mainstream for my liking. You might think this is rich coming from a Metallica fan, and you absolutely fucking right. Motorhead on the other hand are legends. I listen to Killswitch, GnR (i already got shot for this), Edguy, Arch Enemy, Maiden, AC/DC, Alice Cooper, pretty much the fucking works! I only started listening to "not-so-well-known (in the UK)" bands recently, whilst in my and since I left my old band.

I kinda like goth, which indeed came to be by bands such as the Cure, although Sisters of mercy is more wave, which is very often mistaken for goth :p
Bands like Nightwish and stuff like that is what i call "neo-goth", cause face it: Nine Inch Nails is as tr00 goth as you'll get it these days. At least towards mainstreamness.
And i don't like cradle of filth, I'm not so much into melancholical keyboard shit. Although i do like some Nightwish stuff, i have to admit that. But the have cool songs, some Rammstein rip-off riffs and all. Only that vocal thing has to be sent back to her planet, cause frankly i find her annoying.

Heeey...!
I'm substituting Lost for HIM music next time, ok?! Being spanked to the voice of Vile Vallo should be nice. o_O

I love that song especially when he goes high octave while singing the word cunt!
