Critical Interview with Scott (German)

The ROCK HARD hes been on an anti ANTHRAX crusade for a long time now....

Sorry, that's not true. All albums (Especially WCFYA, but also all Bush & Joey Albums) have been praised by rockhard. Most (all?) of Anthrax' cds have been cd of the month. And in the year-polls (top 100 of the year) they allways are beteween the other metal heroes. Well, Alive2 and Anthrology not included, but 'till them they "loved" all the album (that's one of the reasons I read it since I listen to anthrax, many, MANY years)

That some of the rockhard-writers don't like the reunion is another story.
But they like the quality Anthrax delivers!

This interview is the most reunion bashing thing I have seen so far...almost couldn't believe my eyes. Reunionbashers have a lot to learn! Poor Scott...But at least, there's finally something different, I've been tired of all the previous interviews, the same questions and answers all over again. BTW I'm becoming more and more convinced that the Joey die-hard fans are gonna be disappointed when the new album comes out...

More then likley will be no matter how great it is. Seeing alll these songs live after so many years has built a buzz that I doubt anybody can live up to. Plus all the old stuff has that nastolgia factor, a new record wouldn't. Add that to the fact that Charlie and Scott wrote the other albums that many of these didn't like, it's not a good starting point.

I thoght it was cool the the interviewer didn't just kiss Scotts ass. I'm sure, deep down Scott respected that to.

EXACTLY!!!!

That's the most biased article I've ever read. I don't know how it is in Germany, but I took some journalism classes here and if I turned in a report like that, I'd be lucky to get a D.
One thing that nobody remembers is that they- Anthrax- have a contract. Even if they know everything about the next album, they HAVE A CONTRACT! They can't say certian things until there's a press release. Don't you guys remember before April Fool's Day??????
Oh, and they can't predict the future either.

Like I've said, Anthrax is as Anthrax does. I'll buy whatever they put out. Anthrax has never sucked and they never will.

They cant hear you. The lights are on but nobodys home :D

Thanks Freakbrother, that translation surely was a lot of work.
I bought the magazine yesterday and had already read the interview, which I thought was very interesting.
I can't blame the interviewer for being such a pain in Scott's ass. Scott could have simply told the truth. Why keeping everything a secret? Why not be honest about things that he already knows for sure?
But I agree that the question about John's baby being Armored Saint sucked big time. Everybody knows that John has a new born daughter now and that there are no plans for a new Saint album in the near future (read the AS forum for a statement from Joey Vera).
One thing that I agree with Scott with is that we shouldn't bother too much about Anthrax' future. Although initially I was very much against the whole reunion shit, I managed to enjoy it meanwhile. The Anthrology and Alive 2 DVDs are both great fun and IMHO Joey really sings better than ever. I like his more raspy and deeper voice. I'd surely go and see them live, if they came to Vienna again (I live in Simmering). C U :headbang:

Yeah, he wasn't exactly subtle about being a big John fan, was he? Still he asked questions a lot of us have wanted to ask, even if not so politely, if we ever had the chance to meet a member of the band. I'm not sure I would have had the guts to be that direct.

For me I think the biggest thing from the interview is Scott admitting that they actually do know who's singing on the album and they're keeping it a secret. Most of us suspected this all along, even when Scott kept saying "I don't know", so it's been a lousy secret that he's keeping a secret.

Ever think maybe they cant say?

Thanks for the translation!

The interviewer sure came out as an asshole. I mean, it's ok to ask those questions, but he was in a courtroom of his own, demanding answers from a murder suspect.

it seemed as if he wouldnt take a hint either....

Jeebus. You're right. Even though the band is in a contract which means that some things cannot be made public by the band members, everyone thinks they're lying or keeping secrets from us.
Fucking shit.

You missed my point. The fact is that they DO know who's singing but are keeping it a secret (I understand the whole contract thing). But that is different than saying they don't know who's going to be singing, which they've been saying all along.

Saying "I don't know" avoids the question, and leads it to being asked again, because nobody buys that. Saying "We can't answer that question yet due to contract obligations" still avoids the question, but would have been better at shutting us up, because at least then we're getting an honest answer.
