Since at least another person (JayKeelay) wants this: the us metal thread
I hope it wont be buried (my hopes are pointless). Anyway this is the thread where we will talk about the mighty heavy/power metal scene usa had to offer (mainly in the 80s).
I'll start with 5 bands:
Manilla Road: Superbe epic heavy metal with totally personal sound, an absolute riff-attack, technical drumming and characteristic "noisy - love em or hate em" vocals. Pretty much the best and most intellectual (in a good way) epic lyrics ever in metal. At least 4 albums of them are genre classics : Crystal Logic, Open The Gates, The Deluge, Mystification. Buy or die, adore them to death.
Helstar: Another great band from Texas. Their first 4 albums are pure hellish power metal, with "Distant Thunder" and "Nosferatu" being imo the definitions of the genre. "Nosferatu" is also the most technical and riff-iest power metal album ever. James Rivera is one of the greatest metal legends
Heir Apparent: Part of the great scene of Seattle. Their first album "Gracefull Inheritance" is a melodic heavy/power metal diamond, while their second "One Small Voice" is one of the top 20 metal albums usa ever unleashed imo. Steve Benito's voice is as valuable as Ray Alder in "No Exit", or maybe (maybe) Geoff Tate in "The Warning". The album is a brilliant work of prog metal art with huge inspiration in the guitars and keyboards, an emotional overdose, and one of the best covers of "Sound Of Silence". Get it all of you
Liege Lord. Another definition of power metal. Their first album "Freedom's Rise" is outstanding heavy metal with powerfull tunes and a slight epic atmosphere. Their second "Burn To My touch" is their least good - great though and more "thrashy", but just a bridge to their masterpiece : "MASTER CONTROL" - a pinnacle of power/speed metal the way it should be : full of energy, powerfull, dynamic, and RAW.
Omen: In the same team with Manilla Road or Cirith Ungol, Omen created 3 amazing epic heavy metal albums, with the first one "Battle Cry" being the more "barbaric" and raw, the second one "Warning Of Danger" their most mature and probably best moment, and the third one "The Curse" the most melodic of the 3. Really atmospheric music that didnt need any keyboards or samples to be atmospheric, just great "medieval" riffs and melodies. JD Kimball's (RIP) voice remains the most unique AND emotional voice the genre ever had .
If my english wouldnt suck that much i would write better descriptions beh :yuk:

I am SO impressed with this. I'm glad that new distro started up, because MR have always been quite expensive. I really look forward to digesting Crystal Logic a little more. "Mark of the Beast" is the only other MR album I have (turned up today) and it's very cool - lots of 70's style psychadelic synth stuff merged with the riffs. It's like their "forgotten album" or something to that effect. I need more MR.

Helstar..... "Nosferatu" being imo the definitions of the genre. "Nosferatu" is also the most technical and riff-iest power metal album ever.
I have this, but I've only listened to it once....a long long time ago. Will pull it out this weekend.

Heir Apparent.... "One Small Voice"....Get it all of you
OK, I shall.

Liege Lord... "MASTER CONTROL" - a pinnacle of power/speed metal the way it should be : full of energy, powerfull, dynamic, and RAW.
Sounds good. *added to shopping list*

I am embarrased to say that I have never owned any Omen. I've always wanted to though. Just another fish that slipped through the net. I will rectify this asap -- probably just start at the beginning of those 3 you mentioned.

Liege Lord .... are just fucking GODS !!!!

All of you should own that record. I gotta dig that tape out of my attic

I have two items to offer here.. they're both newer, and one of em's Canadian, but SHHHHHH!

Twisted Tower Dire - The Isle of Hydra
I listened to it once and it sounded like pretty solid heavy metal with nice leads/solos.

Ok, here it comes:
Goat Horn - Storming the Gates
So they're Canadian. I cheated. Close enough, right?
HOLY FUCKING HELL, is this album ever good. Aggressive, powerful, traditional heavy metal riffing, great catchy songs, and one of the best drinking albums I can think of! I can't praise this thing enough! BUY OR DIE!

"The Isle Of Hydra" slays. I love it. I find it stupid that bands like Hammerfall are world wide heavy metal celebrities, and Twisted Tower Dire (for example) who are A LOT BETTER, are completely unknown.
Havent heard Goat Horn.
Doomcifer: I never liked Wild Dogs that much, nothing special imo.

really i downloaded "Rotten Roll" - pretty much sabbath-ic heavy metal, reminded me of a more traditional version of High On Fire (who i adore). I will definetally grab an album of them

Their older album, "Voyage to Nowhere" is a lot more doomy, and not altogether that great, but the first track, "Goat Horn" is fuckin killer!

New EP in early 2005: "Threatening Force" with tracks like "For Heavy Metal", "Rise Into the Night", "Threatening Force" and new versions of "Fate Strikes" and "The Last Force"! Man, i'm excited!

Leatherwolf
