Current State of Underground U.S. Metal

So apparently Boston horde Wilderun is suppose to be an early Opeth gone folk. I can certainly see that in these compositions. Not bad at all.

In my quest to find worthy new underground US death metal, I came upon House of Atreus, which, according to reviews, is Arghoslent without the racism.

the best part is, while searching for reviews I came upon this gem: http://www.angrymetalguy.com/house-atreus-spear-ichor-follows-review/

Ill check it out

My n°1 US discovery of the past year would be Mare Cognitum's Phobos Monolith: https://marecognitum.bandcamp.com/. A thrilling voyage through turbulent interstellar landscapes. I've always had a crush for good astronomy-themed black metal, and this album definitely takes the cake as the best one since Moon in the Scorpio.

Well this was a great blind buy.

FYI...you fuckers are boring. GMD is more entertaining

fuuuuuuck here's another game changer. this link is for the full album, but just listen from the beginning. i would call this prog/and or melodic death metal. MASSIVE sound

This is from 2014 but they are releasing a new album this year. Seriously good shit, do not skip over this you fuckers.

Cool, sounds like At The Gates with Martin van Drunen on vocals at times.
Apple Music had two albums so I am syncing them to my iPhone for consumption at work tomorrow.

Winterlore showed up today. Great CD. Cool packaging too. Also received Wilderun's two albums. Got a "Thanx for the support" message from both bands. Plus pins and stickers. No pubes though

This is a ton of great shit. Gotta catch up on this stuff since I 'know' some of the people in these bands.

WELL???? I am totally in awe of this band and their musicianship. I mean… its one of those albums that is just perfect, I wouldn't change a thing. The most refreshing aspect of "Heart of Akamon" is how technical it is. It is simultaneously soulful, atmospheric, and complex.
