Cyanide - Metallica

...in as much as it has that potential phrygian feel to it where you want it to burst into a wicked key and time change with a sweet solo

 to the "potential phrygian" and "key and time change"

Do you really think Kurk Hammett really meant to do that? Isn't that just his lost wah wah wankering? I really don't think Kurk really knows what the fuck is going on musically anymore (if he ever did to begin with).

I thought his puppets ---> black album solos were pretty well written. Like Dave Mustaine once said about him, utterly euphamistically; "he does with well with the talent that he has."

If it went into something blackened/wherever I may roam style-wise that would have been kinda cool...

I don't know if you were taking the piss with calling him Kurk, but his name is Kirk (if you were taking the piss, then sorry for correcting you). Also I believe they're all losing it somewhat now, but I don't agree with the comment that Kirk may have never known what was going on musically. IMO he's written some of the most memorable solo's in Metal (not necessarily technical), and has been a great influence on a lot of people, and made hundreds of thousands, probably millions of people worldwide pick up the guitar. I doubt that he could have achieved all this without knowing what was happening musically when he was writing that material.

I don't mean to sound like a Metallica fanboy, or just like I'm going off on one because of a meaningless comment. I just think people rag on Kirk too much. Fine he isn't Mr Technical, and he sticks to similar ideas/scales (see the pentatonic debate that's getting extremely old now). But as said previously he has written some really memorable and musically spot on leads. Whether he has lost this still remains to be seen, but I think I'd like to see him stop using the neck pickup and use less of a bluesy lead tone as well.

Ooo, and one post off of 2,900 now. :D

I want DREAM THEATER TO TOUR WITH METALLICA!!! Imagine Hammett and Petrucci dueling it out....SSSIIIICCCCKKKKK!!!!!!!

Yeah... nothing better than one of the world's most amazing metal shredders next to a guy who plays like a high-schooler with hearing problems and an inexplicable urge to wear his wah pedal out as quickly as possible...

Jeff

Would be pretty funny though wouldn't it?

Ha! Mustaine has a lot of nerve saying anything like that about Kirk. I'm not a Metallica or Megadeth fanboy and I'm not really jumping to anyone's defense here ... all I'll say is Mustaine has some great abilities but he's a fuckin finger dragger. I'll say that because the cover band I play in does nothing except vintage Metallica/Megadeth/Slayer, etc ...

I find Hammett's (older) solos to be much more challenging, demanding and musical than any of Mustaine's. I think a lot of people were hearing some of that older stuff and thinking Chris Poland's and Jeff Young's solos were actually Mustaine.

I won't even mention Friedman :p

Mustaine is very talented, so is Hammett ... thats just my take on it

I admit Petrucci is better than Hammett, Hammett is great, but Petrucci kind of rapes him.

I love Hammett, I know he my not be the best but he's tight. Petrucci Is God though. On their new CD he tears it up, I saw them live with Opeth and BTBAM....I couldn't even keep up with him.
