Has anyone delved downward into Cradle of Filth's newest release. I personally am overwhelmed by the beauty of this album. Cradle seem so focused and precise as to what they need on this album and used every resourse to birth a waking armaggedon. Share your thoughts.

I like this album. A lot. I have been on board with Cradle for about 6 years now and I would rank this one in their top four. Midian still stands as my least favorite but this is all I could have hoped for. I was worried a bit when they signed to Sony but I think they delivered.

Intersting concept based on Paradise Lost, but the riffs are tired, the drummer sucks, the whole thing is horribly over produced, Dani's a lawn gnome on crack, and the only good moment on the album I've heard so ar is the wordless female vocal hook on Mannequin.

The female backup vocals are awsome. but some songs would suck if she wasn't there singing. but overall i love the cd

The video for that song is weird. To see that deep gothic voice and that Power Ranger squeal from the same tiny midget is a sight to behold.

 tiny midget...yes he is kinda short.....yeah that video..is weird.. they dont even play the whole song..err..uh..i mean..the kind i downloaded at least.

I agree. I don't think the video really does the sing justice.

For a start, they could have portrayed the lyrical theme (or how I interpret it) so much better - from the lyrics it seems to me that there is this evil seductress who the singer falls in love with and then she dies/gets killed.

I'm not sure exactly, but that story could have been protrayed so much better visually. Instead of an atmospheric (dare I say erotic) video, we get this catton like forest with a gormless woman wondering through it.

A disappointing video to a great song.

:(

Cradle of Filth is my favorite black metal band that's still together. I think they're the shit. Don't argue.

Damnation and a Day rules, as someone who bought it on the first day can tell you (I got a free D and a D tshirt too). I think the whole thing is wonderful, and consistently am pursuaded to listen the whole way through.

Midian isn't much liked by CoF fans, but I like it. Maybe I'm and idiot. Maybe I lack taste. Maybe you can blow me.

Midian is my favourite cradle of filth cd by shit loads. Strong melodies, good dynamics, an excellent atmosphere and great imagry created by the lyrics/vocals are some of the things that make me like it so much. It's a bit more guitar and even metal focused than in particular cruelty and the beast and even all their albums before which is also good.

Damnation and a day i liked at first but the songs get kinda boring after a while.

Once again, I appreciate the increased focus on metal stylings (ie more riffs as opposed to tremlo picking), even over midian. However while they put more bite into the songs they lose alot the 'gothic' styling they once had. I guess some people would like that though. I'm not a fan of gothic music by any means (most of it bores the crap out of me) but i think it fitted with cradle very well. The dynamics on this cd don't come close to what was found on midian either. I think alot of bands are really ignoring the power of great dynamics these days which is kind of dissapointing because when you get this right it's when you get the best metal albums like master of puppets, still life, prometheus, dechristianize etc. Cradle's ability to create memorable dark melodies and mixing it with metal and dare i say it their imagry are what made this band so attractive to me in the first place. Take that away and you have a un-exciting average sounding band.
I think the drummer isn't too shabby on damnation and a day though despite the fact someone felt it necessary to point out how pathetic he is.

The last three real songs, in particular, 'The Smoke of her burning' are very good, as well as the instrumental 'the mordant liquor of tears'.

Very much in agreement with you there Dusk. Some solid points, especially the fact that DaaD's transition from more tremolo work to traditional riffing is a big change in their sound that not many seem to mention, and that it does have a significant impact on the atmosphere and mood of their music. I also don't understand much why Midian isn't very well liked. It feels a bit more frail to me than previous albums because it has so many more tremolo melodies and clean vocals, but it's still excellent.

My favourite though is Cruelty. It's the most epic and rich. I think the most dynamic per se is Principles though; it had so much variation and so many textures and transitions.

I respect Dusk and Her Embrace. The whole mood of the album is totally different from their other releases. Very gothic, very atmospheric. Of course, Dani rapes it to death with his voice, but other than that...damn, what an album...

I fuckin' love Cradle of Filth's music. Gothic, melodic, poetic and atmospheric black metal band, they essentially embody several of the aspects I look for in metal. Damnation and a Day is a killer album, and the production is fuckin' clear, although I prefer Cruelty and the Beast and Dusk...And Her Embrace.
