Dark Ambient/Industrial recommendations

I'm generally not a fan of black metal/doom artists who attempt dark ambient. It usually sounds too lo-fi for me and encapsulates all the cliche's of the genre. I find it much better to listen to those who are far removed from the metal scene... while some of the themes and the atmosphere may be similar to bm/doom, the execution and focus on the compositions should be vastly different imho.

of course a good exception to this is Grunt(the guy from Clandestine Blaze and Deathspell Omega), as well as Nothing(JWW from Agalloch)

I haven't actually heard Grunt, i suppose i should be checking it out now :) and Nothing, i had NO IDEA they had ties to Agalloch. I knew they did to Michael JV Hensley of Yen Pox (he sent me Nothing's "the Spine Overshadowed by the Rop" for free), but wow, that is a shocker for me. Granted, i'm still not really into Nothing much, but it's not because they sound like metal musicians trying to do dark ambient :p

Good recs from this board so far, I'm surprised...haven't read the thread but I'll add some favs:

Gruntsplatter
Aghiatrias
Massdirge (just saw this guy live last Saturday at RRRecords...fucking good dark ambient/industrial...if you can find something by him, get it)
Atrium Carceri
Dissecting Table
Haare
Navicon Torture Technologies
Roxanne Jean Polise
Hive Mind

Of course GRUNT is fucking amazing and everyone should listen to Terror & Degeneration and Europe After Storm, two MAJOR career highlights. Mikko is a madman...you should also listen to his more sadistic, pornographic dark ambient/PE side project, Nicole12...

Yep, I'd agree...and the exceptions Phrozenspite posted aren't really valid because hardly anyone knows that either of them do the things he said...still, both are great and you should all listen to them. Generally "metal related noise/ambient" is usually completely awful in the early French tradition (*glares at Les Legiones SUCK "dork ambient" bands!*)...

Oh christ and I just noticed someone mention Zoat-Aon and Aeoga, both of which are totally and utterly fucking ESSENTIAL Finnish dark ambient/ritual sound artists...they are actually comprised of members of Wormphlegm and Tyranny, I believe...

OUT OUT OUT WITH YOUR CRAP.

I just picked up Church Of The Dead Girls... man, that's essential Power Electronics. I generally don't like the style much, but these guys, and Propergol are making me think i should maybe look more into it :)

speaking of power electronics... Nicole12 has ties to Deathspell Omega?!?! haha, shit i didn't realize at all.

Oh shit yeah. On some board i was at everyone was splooging over LLN and mentioning their "ambient" projects in threads asking for "scary" stuff. haha... fucking christ. LLN is for the most part TERRIBLE, and any dark ambient side projects are infinitely worse.

That would be me :)
Aeoga seem to not want people to know who they are. everything i've read says "2 finnish guys" haha... and i'm really fucking loveing Aural Hypnox these days... that whole finnish scene is amazing. I.Corax and Halo Manash are also pretty amazing... both of which are related to Zoat Aon anyway (I.Corax is the project of the guy from Halo Manash and the guy from Zoat Aon)

I THINK I HAVE FOUND AN INDUSTRIAL/DARK AMBIENT FRIEND!!

people like you don't exist in very large numbers, as i'm sure you know :)

I still haven't checked out most of these as I haven't really been in the mood to try new things lately, but I've always kept in mind that I can go back to this thread whenever I decide to follow up on it.

Actually, I'm more of a harsh fucking noise guy...I have my own project...

http://ichorousnoise.cjb.net/

But...yeah, I dabble. Awesome shit though, I must say. LISTEN TO GRUNT!

@Perdition's Light.

I don't like anything totally industrial. Everything "industrial" I like is combined with noise or dark ambient...

yeah V.V.V.V.V. has awesome taste in extreme expirimental music... as far as Industrial goes most of it has lost its way. Now Industrial acts are content with being dance music and doing lots of gay remixes...
I'll also second his rec of Dissecting Table...

and to V.V.V.V.V. thats cool that you finally saw Massdirge, Dave is a cool guy I still have some pieces of one of his synths floating around my car.

Yep...he was damn good. Very serious and brutal-like. Kinda felt bad for him near the end...after hitting his makeshift "table" (constructed from metal girder-like things) a few times with metal rods to the beat of the pulsing synth sounds, he managed to collapse his whole setup! After he finished, he was like "FUCK! It broke...", but I thought he laid down some SERIOUSLY awesome stuff during his 15-20 minutes on-stage...

Picture highlights I took:

very nice, looks like he did a more minimal set then usual... he usually has about 2 more keyboards and an Ibook + a fog machine and a bunch of metal fencing... and usually he uses those makeshift tables to pile on rusty sheetmetal that he randomly beats on heh
