I am very new to the athmospheric dark electronical music so i'd have few questions for those who know better. What exactly is Neofolk? Any bands to suggest? From what i've heard it's something along ambient or similar with a touch of pagan germanic or national socialist influences on lyrics. Am i totaly wrong?

And what comes to the Ambient & Dark Wave or similar, i could ask the same questions... What really is it? The only band i know right now is Dargaard (which i enjoy aloy) So suggest all the bands i should check out. Also if there's any additional information (sites, zines, ect) about these kinds of stuff feel free to share.

Thanks already.

Coldmeat Music is probably the best label for dark ambient/neo-classical/industrial music, they have sound samples on the website.

I recommend the following bands:

Sophia
In Slaughter Natives
Desiderii Marginis
Leak
Raison d'Etre
MZ.412
Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio
Coph Nia
Atrium Carceri
Brighter Death Now
Sanctum
Vinterriket
The Protagonist
Institut
Karjalan Sissit
Arcana
Penitent
Tumulus Seraphin

As for neofolk, check Naervaer. Prophecy have a sample on their website.

I know loads of names, but I'm a bit of a n00b to this stuff. I'll recommend Autechre as an electronica band though, seeing as I'm listening to them right now. The track Tewe is owning me in particular.

if you like Dargaard, you'll like Die Verbannten Kinder Evas (which features Protector from Summoning)

If you like dark electronic music, you really need to listen to Coil.

I'm just starting out with neofolk as well. I've been listening to the big three (Current 93, Death In June, Sol Invictus) as well as some stuff by Backworld, Forseti, In Gowan Ring, Nest, and Tenhi.

Tenhi is A M A Z I N G. You cannot go wrong with either Kuaun or Vare. Both are absolutely essential, with Vare containing the best material imho.

Another absolutely essential neo-folk album would have to be Empyrium - Weiland. :worship:

Sol Invictus - Lex Talionis is a great album too. It definitely takes time to get into though; at least in my experience.

Dark Electronic/ambient that I am into most would be post-trilogy Ulver, especially Perdition City and A Quick Fix of Melancholy EP, In Slaughter Natives, and Sophia.

.

Sounds a little more classical than folky to me, but what do I know?

:eek:f the wand and the moon: is my favourite neo-folk band by far. admittedly not very original, but i love the soothing emotion of the songs.

Autumn Tears
Weltenbrand
Dominion III

Some people would argue that Blutengel is Darkwave as well. Who knows.. Some does sound good. Dark and powerful.

Thanks alot. I was recommended to get "of the wand and the moon" for quite a few times in different places, but i really cant find their stuff anywhere. Looks like my DC-hubs do not really support these kinds of things. Are there any good hubs where you could find alot more underground music? Thanks again.

Neo-folk isn't ambient....it's well, folk, primarily. There are some industrial and classical influences in some bands, though. It's an artistic movement, more than a musical one (like black metal) so some bands sound quite different than others.

I reccomend checking out the bands already suggested along with:

HERR
Blood Axis
Der Blutharsch
Nature & Organisation
Hagalaz' Runedance
Fire & Ice
Omnia

I second the Biosphere recommendation, especially Substrata.

Most of Robert Fripps' solo work and his collaborations with Brian Eno. Some examples:

No Pussyfooting
Evening Star
The Gates of Paradise
A Blessing of Tears

if you could, could you tell me the best albums of those artists to start out with? I've already heard "Sleep Has His House" by Current 93.
