Dark Tranquillity- Fiction :kickass:

Darkane Toured with the V-Amp direct to the board in the USA.

They sounded great live.

Better than Soilwork (weakest sounding band of the night) and close draw with Strapping Young Lad. Fear Factory dominated mainly because they were the headliner and had the best sound given to them.

when i saw them a few years back, they were running v amps into 5150 half stacks. I can't remember where, but i think i read something about them using engl on the new album. that might have been the haunted though.

Peavey 5150 and ENGL Powerball going by the video of them tracking the guitar at their website and youtube.

It says "Peavey 6, ENGL 9" on that sheet of paper.

Dark Tranquillity never fail to impress me. Amazing live band! Amazing album! But IMO, thier production sounded better with Fredman. This was the first time they handed the mixing duties to Mr. Madsen. Definitely far from sounding weak, but I prefer the production gloss of 'Character'.

Character? That album sounded so slamed and sharp I could barely listen to it. The songs were great, but the production and mastering gave me a deadly head and ear ache. Damage Done was where it was for me, but I'd prefer Fiction's sound over Characters.
The only thing I don't like about Fiction is that at times the sound is abit weak, especially in some of the black metalish parts.

I'm also a fan of how character sounded. I think the sound was kinda fitting for the music on that album. Damage done sounds way too smooth in my opinion. Then again, I think Haven was their best album in every way.

Go figure, that's my favorite of theirs as well. I don't know too many people who liked that one. Great songwriting there; it's a very unique sounding album, and really stood out from the melodeath crowd.

I'm with you on that - Haven is my favorite as well, I feel it's their most original

Between the synths (which are excellent- very tasteful), the guitar effects and the riffing, which is very unlike anything else I've heard in the genre, I can't think of any other album by any other band that sounds like Haven does. Come to think of it, even the vocals are pretty unique- give it a good listen... Mikael Stanne is actually growling melodies at times, which is pretty cool.

It's probably the least "heavy" of anything they've done, and I think they got criticized for that, so they followed up with Damage Done, which is pretty much pounding death metal.
