Do you think the new album will hold out the #1 spot when the year is out?

It seems that Nile's new one, ANNIHILATION OF THE WICKED, is gaining steam, along with Dream Theater's OCTIVARIUM, though mostly from hardcore Dream Theater fans. There's also Demons & Wizards great new follow-up TOUCHED BY THE CRIMSON KING to consider.

But the two big albums coming up to contend with Dark Tranquillity are, funny enough, from fellow Swedes...Opeth and Katatonia.

What are your feelings?

There's also the new Nevermore album, the new Aborted album and the new Biomechanical album worth considering. Personally I think this has been a fucking fantastic year for metal, and nothing has disapointed me yet. It will be capped off by the double reunion tour of Carcass and At The Gates (it's going to happen (Im fairly certain :p ) ).

Character is second best to Annhilation of the Wicked I think. I said in alot of places that my heart and soul are with Dark Tranquillity all the way, but my body and mind is with Nile. Apparently the new Dream Theatre is a load of crap. I haven't heard it, but all the other albums contending this year have nothing but possitive feedback so far... so, yeah.

Alot of metallers will probably like the new Children of Bodom aswell... but I have a feeling its gonna lick nuts... I'm not sure why. Probably because the cover is so shit. Any bodom fans wanna flame the holyness out of me?

Opeths new song was shit aswell :p. I tried to pretend to like it, but it was just bad. Hope the album gets better mix than what I heard, and I hope it takes new interesting directions. lol

haha best phrase of the day :D

anyway, i dont know the new nile yet, so for me Character still remains on the top.
but KC as you said this is really a fantastic year for metal yet(sad the new In Flames is pushed to 2006), we got great and interesting albums by extol, nightrage, as I lay dying :headbang: jesu and other real cool bands.
but for opeth and katatonia, I also was dissapointed by this opeth track and I also didnt liked their last albums since still life,so I dont care about Ghost Reveries(but I gonna check it out for sure) and Katatonia, well they are totally different to DT, so Character still rule.and for COB, I hope the new album is better than this boring Hatecrew Deathroll:tickled:
my favs for this half of the year:
1.dark tranquillity-character
2.as I lay dying-shadows are security(best metalcore album ever)
3.30 seconds to mars-a beautiful lie(not so much metal but I love it)
3.Jesu-Debut
4.Extol-Bluprint(amazing music,deftones meet trashmetal)
5.dregd-catch without arms(again no metal,but cool summermusic)

The first time I heard "The Grand Conjuration" I wasn't really sure If I was listening to Opeth's new song or it was a really bad joke, but yeah, It really sucks.:yuk:

So do I :p.

On the other hand, I think Character is the most interesting album and the best proposal from this year, but I'm not really sure if it could be or not the best album of the year, although it is the best album of the year to me.;)

Marduk: Rumors going on since some weeks/ months... But nothing definite. As well as with At The Gates. Talked to Tompa (voc) some time ago and he told me there's nothing about it. Nothing more than rumors. But he told me as well that he WOULD do it... ;) *yeeeehaaaaa*

My fav albums so far this year, in no particular order:

dark tranquillity - Character
Aborted - The Archaic Abattoir
Moonsorrow - Verisäkeet
Dew-Scented - Issue VI
Nightrage - Descent Into Chaos
Kreator - Enemy Of God

maybe the new Darkane (Layers Of Lies), bought it this monday but wasn't able to listen to it enough. But the title-track is absolutely awesome!

Looking forward to the new nile (may get it these days, still thinking of buying the limited box, but it's expensive) and especially the new Arch Enemy (Anthems Of Rebellion was an all-time-album, still listen to it quite often), but I was very disappointed when listening to Nemesis for the first time (on the CM homepage, streaming, sounds very uninspired). So this might get an average album, hope not so.
Don't know of other interesting thigs to come right now, but for sure there will! Oh, Dissection crosses my mind...

@KC: Now where the fuck do you have that reunion tour from? Thatd be a dream come true!! Carcass reunited - :OMG:
EDIT: I realise now that there are no archives for the news... sorry to waste your time with this pointless link... but...
http://www.metaltracks.com/
It was on the first page of news there about a month ago. At The Gates have been talking about it for a long time and have said "It will happen" but not when. Since Carcass are thinking about a reunion aswell they met and talked and they'd be doing a double headline shindig. And I'm going to make myself very poor by seeing every show I can. O f course alot of talk of it being rumours has been thrown out. Although Thomas Lindberg has been quoted on a few occasions... so I think the Bjorlers saying "It's just rumours" is their way of throwing us off.

@Schwedentod: Layers Of Lies probably makes my top five. It's good, but it's not as good as some of this years gems.

Btw... Meshuggah Catch 33 also dissapointed me. Ok, so it's experimental, whatever, but 'I' was good... I dont see why they had to fill this with 15 minutes of electronic junk, done really really badly.

Which is so fucking awesome. Character is awesome too, but this is just so much awesomer. Great riffs, great melodies, awesome vocals and lyrics, varied enough drums. Just about all I need.

"Update June 22, 2005 - At the Gates would like to emphasise that the rumours on Blabbermouth.net about a possible reunion are untrue..."

well thats what tomas lindberg told me and schwedentod when we met him on several the great deceiver gigs...
sad but true :yell:

but the new nevermore must be interesting and hell yeah theres a new SOLEFALD on the way to earth at the end of the year as far as I know.
how could I forget that??? :D

The new Solefald and new Madder Mortem (the albums already recorded, but they still dont have a contract signed, what a mess) will do it for me this year I guess. Havent still heard new Nevermore though.

I think the new Nevermore will be my personal #1 this year, though Character sure pwns majorly. I kinda dread both the new CoB and IF albums.. I used to be a big fan of both, but now.. ugh. I'll give them a try for sure, but ever since I heard that one song of IF's album will be called "Your bedtime story is scaring everyone".. I think we can rest the case.
Hypocrisy's new release could be interesting as well.. and of course, I so have to get my hands on Moonsorrows latest work.

I agree with Tal concerning IF and CoB. Hate Crew Deathroll was definitely a good album but nothing great and although they integrated modern parts better than IF they released better albums (exactly 3...) in their history. In Flames? Don't know what to say. After some turns I really started to like R2R, but StyE is still nothing more than a bad joke. I would rate it a 5 out of 10. A newcomer releasing this album would immediately be forgotten and never see the inside of a recording studio again. Just my opinion. So I'm not waiting for these 2 albums that much.
