Darkestrah - Epos

Epos is possibly the release of the year.

The opening few minutes are stunning and for those same riffs to reprise towards the end just makes the whole damn thing sweet from end to end. Add in some old Krygyzstani lady weeping at the end a la Hate Forest and you've got yourself one of the best albums of 2007.

Does anyone know what Epos is about? Based on a vivid imagination alone, I'm thinking of a setting near the ocean with the men from the village about to set sail (off to war?) and upon their return, only some have made it back safely. The women then weep and mourn for their lost sons.

Or it could be about being short changed at the hot dog stand. Does anyone have the actual CD yet?

Epos
Only, where the sky is crimson,
I hear the moans and cries of the flooded city.
I hear whispers of snakes, shaman howls.

I believe that there is life under the water
the underwater world - the white marble
underwater city - stones of graves
underwater fire - prayers of shaman... for the ancient gods.

City will sink, will be covered by gloom silent water, which will
preserve the silence
it forgot the past, it will not disclose the future,
it will bury the great secrets within itself.

The sun hides behind the mountain from the coming night
Only the voices of bonfire won't fall asleep, arguing with the
cherished darkness.
And stars again await for the dawn,
And waves hit the coast somewhere,
and waterfall splashes at some place.

When all of us, intoxicated by the power, perish into the eternal depth,
In dreams the only water will whisper at night
of the misterious city, the creature of nature
and you will dissolve into the depth of water.
blinded by the sun and the moon
at the day and night...
Wind tears the waves into pieces,
it prays for return of the wise tribe,
stars scream into the depths of sea
for the whole eternity, thousands of years...

I didn't even realize (or expect) that they would write English lyrics.

can't really tell much from the picture (she's the one in the middle), but...alright sweet

haha, cool. But I do hav eto say...

Assbath!? What kind of black metla name is that?

Spun this quite a few times the past few days, but I fail to see how it's better than the new Drudkh. The melodies and build up that Drudkh creates goes so much further than this release.

The riffs and the atmosphere are great... especially the cello and the ambient parts. Damn good album though

Upon revisiting after all the recent discussion I'm enjoying it just as much as when I first heard it (even at work with the sound volume at like 2).

Nothing like quietly rocking out to black metal in an office full of people who think corpse paint is something a mortician applies prior to a viewing at a funeral parlor.

I think that applies for any office. The only caution, is if you have a nice set of headphones, watch the volume, or you'll get wierd looks from your colleagues :p

I was playing Weakling at my Internship over the summer, and a guy walks in and we talk a bit about work, and I just turned down the volume. As he's about to leave... he bangs on my computer, and said, "man, your computer is making weird sounds... You better get that fixed"
