DAW EQs vs Waves EQs

there's plenty of things that can be different. The Q/gain relationship really affects the workflow, the shape of the filters in general, whether or not there is phase compensation of any sort, bit depth/headroom, saturation/transformer modelling, over sampling, HP/LP resonance controls amongst other things. there's nothing wrong with using the logic EQ if it gets you where you want to be. sometimes you'll want to work in different ways in different situations. ultimately it's about workflow.

Sure you can match curves (and therefore phase relationships) between some EQ's but it's really about how useful it is in your workflow. I'd recommend everyone to have a variety of different EQ's depending on the situation even though in theory you could do pretty much everything with something like proQ or equilibrium. I still love having a pultec style EQ on hand, usually something like a neve style eq can be nice too.

maybe it's just the GUI but I never use the Pro Tools stock EQ. I use REQ for that kind of stuff, otherwise it's Waves SSL channel on 80% of my tracks, with some other waves plugs sprinkled in...
I would argue that they DO sound better. Maybe you can get pretty close with stock EQ's but I don't want to mess with curves all the time and the UI's aren't as intuitive.... would much rather pull up an SSL plug and turn some knobs.

RenEQ and EQ III are about 80% of any EQs I use ... but couldn't agree more about wishing for a larger, updated GUI and maybe a little extra (freq analyzer perhaps) as long as it didn't compromise what I perceive to be its character

I've created a bunch of presets for Pro Tools' EQ3 that all have zero gain, but the curves and frequencies default to those from an SSL, Neve or Pultec EQ. This gives me quick starting points.

Here's my thread on GS about this:
Digi EQ3 sounds the same as Waves SSL E-Channel, UAD Neve 1081 and Pultec!

I use Reaper's ReaEQ a heck of a lot. It does the job. One EQ is very much like another unless they are modelling something and adding harmonics/saturation or whatever ie. Pultec emus.

The principle is the same:- Boost or attenuate or filter specific frequencies of elements to make them fit the mix, cleaning up mud or whatever. The more "specialised" EQs to add color. Just my 2c. I probably don't know nuttin'.

I always thought reneq sounded harsh, GUI is awful and counterproductive in my end.
equality, equilibrium are tits. Nebulas eq are awesome and variety of sounds last eq rules. I love SSL curves.
today I mostly use my hardware eqs but I just ordered slate vbc but that is just to jump on the ilok wagon hoping vmr will make me wanna sell my out board haha
