Death magnetic leaked

Haven't ever gotten into any of their prior albums, but I respect the influence of the first four. DM is the first I could album of theirs I could see myself listening to alone more than once.

Whichever ones you like, whichever ones you don't... I just want to say, Metallica is one of the greatest bands of all-time. No matter how many people love tearing into them and making jokes... none of those people will ever accomplish what Metallica has. They've made some crap albums, but so has virtually any band with 9 albums. At least Metallica has always tried new things. I'll never understand why trying to play the same sound from your first song to your last one is so highly regarded by some.

They don't support that, they support GOOD change. Metallica decided to go off on a tangent they couldn't realistically do any good music for, and they suffered for it. Besides, there are plenty of bands that are much better than Metallica, what you're saying about accomplishing can be 'accomplished' by pure, simple luck.

LOL, yeah. Being the forerunner of thrash and making some of metal's all-time classics was just pure luck. Even so... that's a level that none of Metallica's detractors will ever reach.

So after all these bullshit metallica threads, I was inspired to go and relisten to Puppets. It was my first metal album, but I haven't listened to it in a good 2 years. GOD DAMN it's a great album. Also listened to Justice and Ride and I'm gonna give KEA a go in a bit.

They were not the forerunner, there are much better classics, and there's a certain Metallica detractor that has beaten them out as a thrash band already, maybe you've heard of them, Megadeth.

Metallica was the first thrash band to release a major album, to my knowledge. Metallica predates Megadeth and Megadeth is crap compared to Metallica. Their stuff is more like speed metal, all campy and upbeat.

WRONG
Overkill.
Metallica does predate Megadeth, and Metallica's first five kick the shit out of Megadeth's, but Megadeth was neither campy nor upbeat.

For the record, I DO like Megadeth a lot. I just think Metallica's sound was a lot better. I do consider Megadeth upbeat. The campyness, I think, comes from the vocals. A lot of people would consider Metallica the campier band, but meh, we've all got our perspective.

Right. The entire world has it's perspective, and you have your perspective, which seems to revolve around being so high that reality doesn't faze you.

LOL. Ad hominem attacks never fail, eh friend? You don't know the first thing about me.

You're lying to yourself with a straight face if you're pretending that everyone has the same ideas about subjective music except for me. Do you honestly think that everybody in the world thinks the same thing about Megadeth? You honestly don't think that I could find other people who agree with me about Megadeth's speed metal-tendancies and campy vocals? Just take a look at the different opinions people have on Metallica albums -- some consider Justice a technical masterpiece, others consider it an aimless mess. Which side is me, and which side is everyone else in the world? Music is subjective to an almost absurd extent.

Megadeth being campy is weird...campy is sorta something that applies to all metal. Upbeat? I wouldn't call anything they did in the 80s even remotely upbeat. And really, upbeat isn't a matter of opinion, it's a matter of fact. As for the speed metal, speed metal and thrash overlap, and nobody's arguing that KiMB and SFSGSW were very much speed metal.

As a huge fan of their old stuff (Kill'em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, ...And Justice for All), I was really thinking Death Magnetic would be another shitty album, following awful records like St. Anger and Reload, and I didn't listen to anything when it leaked.

After reading a lot of posts of people mentioning how it sounded, I decided to give it a chance, and bought the CD yesterday.

I'm finishing the CD for the third time, and it's a lot better than I expected. I didn't believe I would ever listen to a "new" Metallica sounding so close to what they played in the past (of course, keeping in mind that a lot of time passed, I never expected them to record a new MoP or AJFA).

It's good to have them back, it's not a masterpiece, but it's Metal, and it's listenable. I'm glad I was wrong about it.

I would even say it's better than the Black Album, as some already stated. But it's soon to say it, I guess. Need to listen to it more and see how it feels, and if it grows.

i don't... i can't... does not compute... why

stuff like of wolf and man and wherever i may roam is pretty cool but i'm still inclined to agree with the people who say the first four are INFINITELY better. black album has some absolutely godawful, inexcusably bad shit on it, like that 'my friend of misery' chorus god i hate that so so much. as an aside the fastest songs on that album are pretty much the worst which is kind of weird and sad
