Death Magnetic release date

In the latest issue of Classic Rock Magazine, there is an article detailing "initial impressions" of 7 or 8 songs that were released to select journalists. Classic Rock raved about the songs they heard claiming that it truly harkens back to the band's classic era....AND Hammett's solos are back with a vengeance.

Under normal circumstances, I'd attribute this to being nothing more than the "kissing Metallica's ass for the sake of it" bug which has really infected the mainstream rock press. But Classic Rock Mag is not of that ilk: it typically doesn't kiss ass of what's vogue. In fact, they're typically spot on.

Classic Rock is a great mag! Metal Hammer is okay too, I think they are put out by the same people. But, I read stuff in Classic Rock about bands I don't even like, just because they can actually write...gasp. I can't remember the last rock magazine I bought and enjoyed reading like that. Did you read the story this month about UFO? And the one about Lynnard Skynnard? They were both great...

meh... how many times have we heard those kind of reviews about bands whose creativity dried up years ago?

Didn't some other magazine proclaim that St.Anger was the return to RTL and MOP days back then? What a bunch of losers... No one has the balls to say "your album sucks and so do you, so here's one star out of five for you".

Metal Hammer basically cummed all over it when it came out because it was metallica, but now are like "yeah it was shit"
It's always the same.
Like apparently Kerrang reviewed COF's debut 1K, and then when they did a "COF in Review" look back, they changed the review completely and gave it 4Ks.

Kerrang did that for St Anger too. 4K's when it came out and 4K's in the special Metallica issue, but then recently they said it sucked (apparently they said that to Lars in an interview).

Most of the feedback from magazines/sources who got to hear some songs from Death Magnetic have been pretty positive (except for The Quietus).

The Quietus
Classic Rock
Kerrang
Rock Sound
Rolling Stone
Metal Hammer
Thrash Hits

I'm sure some of these links have come about before (I notice the Classic Rock one was referenced earlier) but I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to post them again if anyone is interested in reading them.

Thanks for the links. I guess many people like to read reviews and make up their minds a priori. I like to download and check the material for myself, then read the reviews and see if I agree or disagree with it. After all the reviewer got his/her copy for free, I will have to buy mine, so I have to be 100% sure before open the wallet.

The Unforgiven III

Thats why Im not gonna buy this album

Panning the album based on a song that you haven't heard?!
That's kinda closed minded isn't?
In any event I don't think a few hundred fans not buying it won't hurt sales at all. In fact if they get their own Guitar Hero game sales of this album and the back catalog will soar.

who cares about all that shit. It's just about the actual album, they can have their logo put on the moon for all I care but it would be nice if this album was anything approaching as good as their earlier work.

Oh god :erk:
It'll be worse than Dragonforce.

I love power metal, but Dragonforce it's a stain in the sub-genre it makes me ashamed of being a power metal fan :zombie:

I'm keeping my fingers crossed I think there's still a thread of hope with Metallica. While I doubt they will relive past glories they certainly could put out a respectable album...

If at least they pull something like Megadeth with UA I will accept it. Again having 'The Unforgiven III' give me chills dwon my spine :ill:

It's not incredible how much people get energized pro or con regarding Metallica? It's influence and their early albums marked us all, otherwise we won't be discussing it still, isn't it?

When I read that name I just thought ok this is going to be the perfect shit! I tought that after all these years Metallica would have better ideas than to make The Unforgiven III...

whats wrong with the unforgiven songs? if Kill the lights was on the album as a track would you all be saying OMG ITS A GOING TO BE A THRASHER!?!?

If Metallica pulls something like UA, I hope it is actually better than UA. UA was a huge step backward for MegaDave, IN MY OPINION

Again I disagree, it's way better than "Risk", TWNAH and TSHF. So accordingly anything better than "St. Anger", "Reload" and "Load" have a chance to be decent.

Well, Risk wasn't a metal album but is good for what it is: A rock album

TWNAH has some decent tracks on there like Disconnect and Dread and the Fugitive Mind, but most of it is boring

TSHF is the best thing the band has done since Youthanasia

UA just seemed like a rehash of past riffs and riffs from other songs not done by Megadeth
