Death Magnetic release date

SHKM and Atrocity are post-thrash

Overkill and Testament, and Exodus are still fucking thrash. What makes it "post thrash?' The fact that it's not the mid-late 80's anymore? Your avatar is John Tardy, if I'm not mistaken. And since Obituary's next 2 albums after The End Complete are sub par (to me), I guess I should call them "post-death". What would you call a band like Dew Scented, that cite thrash as their influence? You can't call Overkill, Exodus, etc. retro thrash, since they've been around for over 20 years, and haven't lightened up their sound. They're still thrash bands.

Firstly, just because a band cites 'thrash metal' as an influence doesn't automatically make them thrash. I've never heard Dew Scented so I can't comment on their sound

Secondly, thrash is a distinct sound. As far as I'm concerned, newer Overkill and Exodus don't fit the distinct sound. There are hints of thrash on SHKM, but everything else is closer to groove metal on that album.

Third: Obituary's only medicore album is the newest one

Just for the sake of argument. Death Angel had groovy sounds as early as "Frolic Through The Park", will that made them post-thrash in the pure thrash era according to you? Just curious.

I suppose post-thrash is the wrong term for Death Angel. They went more heavy metal/hardcore sounding on their current album

EDIT: I didn't understand your question at first. The only Death Angel albums I've heard are Act III and the newest one

Well "Act III" is pretty groovy compared to their debut, and their two last albums retain part of that grooviness (which was accentuated totally when they changed to The Organization before disband).

Again I fail to find the hardcore element in Death Angel, hardcore for me is S.O.D. or D.R.I.. I guess we can't tune up on the same frequency :loco:

didnt we all already hear new metallica from their live shows that they played stuff from this album in the works?
Rob Trujillo said that those songs won't appear on the album, only parts of them. The Mission Metallica site has had videos of a few variations of the main riff section and the solo section from the first one they played, and nothing from the other one.

I'd guess stuff from the first new song may be on the album but maybe not from the second song. There's also the chance that no parts from either song will be on the album.

Those vids No-Mercy put up were OK, and yeah, they had a punk feel to them, but I'm sticking to the 80s Metallica if the new album isn't my thing.

According to MissionMetallica.com; Death Magnetic will officially be released worldwide on September 12th.

As previously reported, the tracklisting for Death Magnetic is:

The Judas Kiss
Suicide & Redemption
My Apocalypse

I don't know if it's been posted here before, probably because I've heard this news before. But it's still pretty cool news, thanks.

Oh yeah, and some of these song titles are so confusing that i feel suicidal hahaha.

In the latest issue of Classic Rock Magazine, there is an article detailing "initial impressions" of 7 or 8 songs that were released to select journalists. Classic Rock raved about the songs they heard claiming that it truly harkens back to the band's classic era....AND Hammett's solos are back with a vengeance.

Under normal circumstances, I'd attribute this to being nothing more than the "kissing Metallica's ass for the sake of it" bug which has really infected the mainstream rock press. But Classic Rock Mag is not of that ilk: it typically doesn't kiss ass of what's vogue. In fact, they're typically spot on.
