As Christmas is coming up, I should be slightly more wealthy afterwards.

Having only really got into recording relatively recently, I don't really have that much gear, so i figured I'd spend some money on a few bits.

The 2 most expensive things that I'm currently looking at buying are a 6505 head, and a Pod XT Pro.

There's no way that I'll be able to afford both of these for quite a while, and would still have to save for quite a while to afford the 6505.

My question is, is it worth buying a Pod XT Pro if I later plan on getting a 6505? Or should I just straight up save for the 6505 and forget about the Pod.

I know the Pod has some good clean/effecty sounds, but is it worthing having it just for that, if I later get the 6505?

Hopefully this won't start world war 3 over wether or not line6 make good gear.

I'd say save for the head. Line 6 makes good gear, but its kind of jack of all trades, master of none. The 6505 will get you where you want to go much faster, and will probably sound better in the end. True, the 6505 lacks a good clean sound, but again there are things that do clean much better than the pod.

I'd recommend the pod simply because of the convenience of it; there are times, I assume, when you won't be able to crank up a stack, so having a pod around solves that. Also, you could definitely save a ton of cash by getting one of the hundreds of used 5150's/6505's (they're literally identical).

Get a used podxt bean- will work every bit as well as the pod pro for late night recording or quiet practice. Use the leftover cash to get a used 5150- I've learned that a pod just doesn't cut it as the only amp. Real amps sound and feel so much better, just a pleasure.

If you are unable to crank a stack, one word comes to mind - IMPULSES! Yes, the pod is convenient, but it doesn't produce tone superior to a 5150. I've learned the hard way to just save money for what is the best tool for the job...settling on something "for now" always ends in disappointment until I buy what I truly wanted in the first place. That being said, go to the music store, try out both items, and buy what you think is best. You will be happier in the end.

Oh I wasn't saying the pod instead of the 5150, I was saying pod now, 5150 as soon as he can (believe me, I know the Pod will never match a tube amp, that's why I also own a JSX and a Bogner 2x12!)

Exactly. Also to clear things up I'm not saying the pod is a piece of crap. One can search this forum and find a ton of great tones that were created with a pod. I just have way more fun with a real amp .
