Decisions on new upgrade, i need some help

alright

so i sold my presonus unit
and now i have a few options
im borrowing an M audio project mix from my buddy (im more then most likely buying it unless i find something really fucking lame about it)
and i really like the control surface and how im not getting a tiny little mouse cursor to accurately hit the fader knobs and i just seem to work better with it cause its right in front of me.

and i was thinking..if i buy this,
(cause theres no fuckin way im using these pre's.
way too hot. im not diggin them
especially for micing loud guitar cabs and drums)
should i get an external pre amp like an m audio octane pre?

or should i get a focusrite octapre?
