I know you can use delays for special effect on say guitars and vocals. Do you ever throw it in on something like toms for an entire track? And I'm not talking about on some abstract psychodelic song but like on a straight up metal song the whole way through.

I usually use very light reverb on my snare almost religiously, unless the album being recorded just doesn't call for that. Basically delay is just a more exagerrated effect of reverb. I'm sure if you tried very little wetness and a very short delay, it would sound good, however...this would defeat the purpose of using DELAY and would end up being (basically) REVERB. So, just use reverb :)

No.
But you can put some on hihats if you're Stewart Copeland. :)

Actually ive seen Copeland play Walking on the moon live. He doesnt use delay on it at all. he plays it straight and just alters his attack on the drum.

For years to thought it was delay til i saw him live. It impressed the shit out of me

LOL hell no it doesn't sound good, not when I do it, that's why I want Y'ALLS opinion!! Seriously, can you throw a delay on a snare in metal?

The project I jsut finished up I used delay on the snare for an effect in one song. There was a part where the snare did 4 hits in a row for a stop, and the guitar kept going. I added dealy to the snare hits (synched to tempo) so that the snare sounded like it was decaying off into nothing. It worked really well for the track.

As for delay on the drums for the whole track, I've never had that sound too good

Dude thats one of the best things ive ever heard. his work with Les Claypool and Trey Anastasio was awsome aswell

What most pisses me of now is I had these absolute rare EP in my record colletion ( yes, I have records and even a turntable) and after this thread I had a look at my collection and realized this particular EP is disappeard and I have no fucking idea where!
