Destroy Erase Improve

Ive seen these guys do several shows as Im friends with a tech of theirs.... they're all phenomenal musicians, and killer guys.

Here's a rockin pic for you guys... I was pretending to be a drunken sommelier, then Tomas and Jens jumped into the pic and changed it all up

Back in 95 when friends of mine recorded their album with Berstrand they became pretty good friends. Meshuggah was the band to enter the studio after my friends. Bergstrand invited us to come to Uppsala and party while Meshuggah where there recording. We had a great time alltough Haake was beaten up by som scumbags that night. We where all pretty drunk.

I know they have used a TC Elctronics preamps to tighten up the guitar sound. It´s incredible what this thing do to the guitar sound. I have tested it my self. You dont boost , you just back off a bit on the knobs and "chugg chugg" I dont know if it was used on DEI though

Sorry, I don't really have a point here.

No point is needed for this album. :)

Both composition and production sound amazing even nowadays and better than 99% of everything that came out after it.

Brutal, tight, great sounding and a very unique composition.

Also, is it just me or do the rest of you guys LOVE how much tone the bass guitar adds to the sound on both DEI and Chaosphere? In DEI the rhythm guitars sound like absolute arse without the bass there, and on Chaosphere the bass just adds that lower mid fullness and 'scraping a pipe along a tanker' grit.

I'm not trying to argue with you, because I'm completely indifferent whether its true or not, but I did read that back in 1995 or 1996 before Chaosphere was even out.

You would know best though, you know them!

I was clearly wrong. Sorry 'bout that. I sincerely thought it was all natural, but I suspect Tomas mangled that snare too. :)

I know they used their TC PRE -> Marshall 8100 Valvestate -> Marshall JCM800 LEAD until they switched to Line6 on "Nothing", but they did use a Rectifier (dual?) on the recording of Chaosphere. Don't remember what cab it was, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was the same old battered Marshall. That fucker sounds awesome. It's still in the studio, but Fredrik gave (!!!) the 8100 to a friend of his.

The TC PRE is just boosting the guitar signal by 11-12 db's while removing a lot of bass and adding treble. Similar to the TS808 with drive 0, tone max, volume max, but the frequencies are a bit different. Makes every amp to a djent-monster.

I'll try it on the KranK Rev+ and the 'stein+ we've just borrowed for evaluation. ;)

Edit: According to their own forum, they used the Mesa on DEI too. Damn! I was wrong on that thing too. Ah well...

I'm all about what the bass tone adds on DEI, but I've got mixed feelings about the Chaosphere bass tone. Its good in the sense that it definitely gives the album a lot of character, but in my humble, and perhaps unique opinion, I kinda feel like the upper end of the bass kinda steps on the toes of the guitar tone a bit. When I first heard Chaosphere I remember thinking that the guitars sounded kinda wacky until I realized it was the bass I was hearing, throwing me off. Still good though. It almost has that "Leviathan Sea Monster Emerging From The Depths Of The Deepest Sea To Annihilate All Human Life From The Earth" sound to it, but with a bit less bottom. :goggly:
