Some time ago I asked for advice about DT on this board....various folks offered up some titles......

anyway, at the time I checked out some things that didn't immediately click with me....but of late I've given him another try, and whoa! Good stuff.

I've recently picked up Terria and Accelerated Evolution, and they are both AWESOME!!!!! The riffs and production (and melodies) are just HUGE.

Great stuff. Can't remember who recommended him now, but I'm a convert for sure. I'll be getting more for sure. I don't much care for SYL, but his solo stuff is amazing, simply amazing.

My friend was playing some of his latest, Synchestra, last night before the H&H show. I was pretty impressed too. There's a song on there that Vai plays on. I don't really like SYL either, but from I heard, there's a lot to like about his solo stuff...

SYL is all about noise, obnoxious noise. Although Devy's solo sound is also about noise, it's a lot more melodic and really shows how great of a songwriter he is. I absolutely love Synchestra, and Terria is pretty good too. Those are the only two I have so far.

I suggest you get "Synchestra" then, you'll very likely love it, and I'd also recommend what stands as his best work IMO : "Ocean Machine - Biomech". This very record has changed my musical tastes alone when I heard it in 1998.

"Infinity" is another awesome record but this one's more intricate, experimental and crazy, while retaining the trademark DT melodies and atmospheres. Wait until you're a complete Townsend fanboy to get it :D
