Travelled down to Atlanta pretty much just because Devin was there. It cost me a bit of cash, but it was well worth it. This was an oppurtunity I couldnt pass up. I dont think most of the crowd knew what they were getting with Devy, though he was received warmly. I did see a few people get up and walk out after a couple of songs, which was dissapointing to see, and have read that some people didnt like the music, and I think I was the only one standing and clapping in my section at the end of their set, but whatever. They rocked hard. Their set began with Devin sayingsomething along the lines of... this is the devin Townsend Band, its all about me, me , me, meglomania! Stick it in your cunt! Then he played about 30 seconds of Bryan Adams' Summer of 69 and said something about being canadian. With all of the vocal layers, and samples he uses, some of the little things get lost in the live performances, overall everything sounded great though (I imagine he's a soundboard operators nightmare). Including two new songs! The new band did a great job. The drummer especially gets kudos from me. Sounded great on Earth Day. Cant wait for the new album
What i remember from the set...

Seventh Wave
Regulator
Truth
Story (?) (new song)
Life
Suicide (new song)
Earth Day
Bad Devil

there was two other songs i'm pretty sure, but i'm pretty sure, i'm not sure what they were.... I wish he had alonger set as I would have loved to hear some more of Terria. The highlight of my weekend though, was seeing Devin in the airport as i was going through a security checkpoint. I was wearing a DTband t shirt i just bought (Nice new shirts, cool logo!), he saw it, gave me a nod and a smile. I just said dude you were fucking awesome last night. He said thanks i appreciate it. I've been grinning ear to ear since. :) I heard his name paged over the airport loud speakers too.

Devin Townsend rules.

It looks very cool dude!

the silouhette (or however you spell that) of Devin going through the A on the back also looks cool.

Thanks for sharing your story, it was cool!

Anyone else got some Devy stories? I only saw him live once with SYL, but I need sleep, so maybe I'll describe whatever I can remember from three years ago later.

Great story, it makes me sad that I live in Hawaii... but I'm going to NYC next month, so it's gonna be fine...
does anybody know if the metal seen is good over there??

Well, there is an entire music genre (well it's more of a group of bands than a genre) known as N.Y.D.M. (New York Death Metal). Mortician, Suffocation, and a lot of other bands that I'm too stupid right now to enumerate. In other words, I envy you!

most of the major tours come through here... i know Shadowsfall is playing on Dec 9th and Dio is playing on the 13th.

If you stay until Febuary you can catch SYL. ;)

thanx for the information man.

No problem. In comparison to where I am, NYC could be considered metal central of the world... and I've had acts like Cryptopsy, SYL, Cannibal Corpse, Angel Corpse, Morbid Angel come by (unfortunatley, all in the range of about five years). We also have our local acts (which are great in some cases) but every city has these. It feels good to have the big names come by because it makes you feel like you haven't been forgotten, and trust me, I highly doubt a single band out there has ever had NYC wiped from their memory!

Devin put on a great show at ProgPower. I basically went just to see him (and Pain of Salvation). He did not disappoint at all, but I also wish the crowd had been responsive. He was extremely animated on stage as I knew he would be. I took a few pictures of him on stage that I'll try to get my friend to host, especially of his "progressive nipple" where he lifts his shirt and started rubbing his nipple. He also made some silly facial expressions during some of the solos. I was extremely impressed with the new songs, especially Suicide. I agree that the drummer definitely did a great job, especially on Earth Day.

By the way, I got him to autograph my Terria and Infinity cd covers and also the ProgPrower program the night before. I also got a picture with him and some of my friends. He was extremely humble and definitely the nicest musician I've ever met. Great experience.

ok sad thing... I'm gonna miss shadows fall, and SYL.....:(
I'm only gonna be in NYC for about a month... I might be able to see SYL if I choose to stay there...

sounds awesome. i cant believe some people said his performance at proggy power was horrible. i dont see how it could possibly be "horrible"...even if he had an off night, still not horrible, no way.
