Did anyone like Brave New World?

It's the closest they've gotten to a legitimately great album since No Prayer. Unfortunately, the creative high that Bruce & H undoubtedly brought coming off of The Chemical Wedding is mostly stifled by some of their most repetitive songs, and a couple (Dream of Mirrors and The Nomad) are pretty much filler in their entirety. Strip off twenty minutes and it would be damn fine.

I love Final Frontier by the way, the second half is utterly stellar, though perhaps a bit dense to really 'get' on one listen. I see a lot of people dismissing the new album after one listen, expecting Iron Maiden to sound like it's still 1985. Well it's not, and it's really an album that deserves three listens before you can start to unravel all the pieces.

I don't know man, you talk about it as it is a very profound and complicated piece of work, instead I see it as just too long repetitive songs... I wouldn't care standing through that whole boredom if it wasn't Maiden in question after all...

As far as 1985 is concerned, the only thing I'd like them to go back to is their creativity, however it may sound today, 25 years after - nothing less nothing more. Their latest CDs are the definition of boring and uninspired to me...

I agree mostly on a 99%. 'The Nomad' is THE filler of that CD and a sign of things to come (boring albums), the rest are alright but I would also put aside 'Bloodbrothers' and 'The Thin Line Between Love And Hate', but actually keep 'Dreams Of Mirrors' as it has a great chorus.

Man, have you listened to it?! Starblind in particular is a pretty complicated song. The structure is all over the place. And I wouldn't say the others are simple or repetetive either... not that many repeating sections, no more so than in the "classic" days at least. In fact that was something I found refreshing about TFF was that it isn't as repetitive as the last couple of albums...

 Wow, 'Thin Line' is the best song on there for me... Mercenary is the only weak link IMO!

BNW is a very good album and IMO is better than the ones that follow. Contrary to most here so far, I love The Nomad and absolutely cannot stand the Wicker Man (this is what I call FILLER). I just love the odd time signature of the main intro/chorus riff of The Nomad. For my money though, Ghost of the Navigator is our best glimpse of "Maiden" since FOTD.

I feel that they did a great job on TFF of keeping the choruses from being annoyingly repetitive (a strike against BNW). However, the songs really just go nowhere and the versus are long and uninteresting to me. I feel there's not much that is very memorable. The best parts of this album are some of the solo sections where they just jam. Overall, the songs are just too long for Maiden. I get to track 7 and I'm like, "cool, I only need 45 minutes to listen to the last 4 songs!"

Thta proves that our tastes are different ;), I like 'Mercenary' bridge: Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide, you've got to kill to stay alive

It took me a long time to get used to BNW. Mostly it was psychological, knowing that there were now three guitarists and it sounded too busy for me. So all albums that came after were treated very circumspectly. I can't say I enjoy or actually know any Maiden album post-FotD in it's entirety, mybe a few songs stand out here and there. I would still get the albums, it's Maiden after all. :)

Funny, I always thought they underused the 3 guitars in the bands, they mostly play in unison from what I hear and therefore I do not see much logic behind the 3 guitars in the band... Apart from keeping Gers employed :)

I also hoped they would start playing the songs which are really hollow without 4 guitars (like Flash Of The Blade or Duellists), but it's apparently much easier to churn out TNOTB for the milionth time. :)

That's another reason why I think the second half of TFF is great... they finally seem to be utilising the guitars a lot better!

I agree about the setlist thing though. I'd kill to hear Flash of the Blade or Duellists with those multi-layered middle sections...

I've always maintained that Gers, as good as he is, never really belonged in Maiden. I'm sure it's not the paycheck keeping him there. He can prolly go out and join any band out there and kick serious ass.

I think he's most of all a nice and positive guy and that's why he wasn't shown the way out when Dickinson/Smith combo got back.
I honestly don't find him to be that good... He was always more of a stage clown to me with his antics than a player worth listening and checking out... If it wasn't for Maiden he'd be just another guy that played on Bruce's solo release. Roy Z and Alex Dickson are better by far...
