I hear people knocking the floyd all the time and from my experience with students' and friends' gear you just gotta make sure it's the schaller-made floyd. But I hear good things about the one that Ibanez manufactures for their high end models.
I know not that many people who are serious about their recording on this forum don't like floating trems. But in-truth for me i think its a great looking piece of hardware and my leads are so technically lacking that the trem "fills the gaps" LOL
Ibanezs Edge pro trem is very good in my option and its made by Gotoh. Its just the pop in arm that lets it down.
I heard somewhere that PING also make FloydROses under licence and are allowed to stamp them with the FR logo: I would guess that is what is going on the ESPs and BCRichs now to keep build cost down. i think the Schaller units also use a good sized brass block as std for improved sustain.
Usually I say use a hardtail/stoptail for recording.
I've just done a blindtest for the guits I'm tracking atm...and I ended up with my trusted old ESP MI again (Floyd).
