jewel.

i hate digis. for example, the digi for two hunters - it's too difficult to get the cd in and out of the sleeve, all the while not scratching the thing.

also, if the teeth holding the cd break, you're screwed.

if a jewel case breaks, you can replace it. not so with digis.

if the label or distro puts stickers on the actual digi, it's hard getting the entire thing off if the sticker keeps tearing.

drop a digi and it damages. drop a jewel case and replace it

That cd was the inspiration behind this thread. BTW I forgot to tell you that that MDB is a digi. It's the kind where the flap opens and you pop it off of a plastic jewel case like backing.

Jewel cases, because they can always be replaced (I once had a digipak with most of the "teeth" missing on the, uh, CD-holder part, so I was pretty much fucked), and the digipak has some occasional annoyances: Deathspell's latest has no booklet-holder, Asunder's latest includes the disc in a hidden envelope, and neither of my Paysage d'Hiver CDs can fit on the same shelf as the rest of the "P" bands in my collection...they're instead forced to the top shelf, just in front of the "A" bands, which nicely blocks the obnoxious "Xtreem Cult" insignia on the back of my Abhorer CD, but then I have to worry about observers assuming an unwarranted importance for the extra tall CDs on the top shelf. I CAN HARDLY STAND IT!!!!1

edit: It looks like most of my points were already covered.

Jewel. I hate how that when you order online, 99% of the time they never tell you whether the cd is in a jewel case or digi, so when it arrives it could be a digi, which I don't want. My Paradise Lost-Gothic and Symphony X-Paradise Lost were 2 of my cds which I thought were gonna come with jewel cases but instead came with digis.:(

I wish I could replace every single jewel case I have with a digipak version (or better yet, digibook).

I went out of my way to look for the Primordial TGW digipack. If I ever get the choice between jewel and digi, I go with digi each time. Just feels more like a vinyl. Feels like more effort went into the packaging.

Celestia's "Apparitia..." is one of the nicest looking digibooks I own.

Slipcases annoy me, too, unless their design is just a pointless duplication of the front and back covers, in which case I don't feel guilty throwing them away.

I had to convince myself not to care for Pelican after I butchered Australasia's oversized cardboard envelope thing so it could fit in a jewel case. The results were too impure for me to keep with the rest of my CDs in good conscience. I think it's currently buried under some crap in my desk somewhere.

haha, "impure". i feel the same way about cds with holepunches in the barcode

How about those damn promo stickers that are such an eye sore and nearly impossible to cleanly remove?

"Album of the year 2003"
"Terrorizer gives it two thumbs up"
"Saturnus meets In Flames"

WHAT THE FUCK!

I don't mind digipacks. Some are better than others. As long as you take care of them, you're gold.
