This topic may have already have been discussed but I did not see it anyhwere. What is the advantage to getting the digipack over the jewel case edition album? The only difference I know of is with the external packaging, but is the sound any different? Thanks.

Cardboard tastes better than plastic.

Other than that most likely none (you didn't mention which album you're talking about but I don't recall any digipak editions having bonus material).

Some digipaks are just a failed attempt to charge you more. Like when i bought Katatonia - LFDGD...it didn't even have a booklet! They just wrote the lyrics right onto the cardboard. Have they no shame?

*silently curses the record companies out loud*

most of the time i prefer jewel cases to every other format. that's because i can take the booklet out and stick it in my case, and put the cd on top of it. i hate the cases where you can't take the notes out. i hate even more the "book" ones where the cd is housed in some cardboard contraption that ensures its scratched before it even gets to you

Yeah, that is the only good thing about Digipack's, very cheap. Right now HMV are selling most Digipacks at about £5.99!

Makes you wonder, why do we pay an extra £10 for a jewel case + booklet?

I saw a copy of the used Damnation digipack on amazon and it was still like 15 euros or something. I'll know now to stay away from it. Thanks for the advice.

Woah, thats expensive. Changing our dollars to your money, i get my cds for about 7 pounds regularly, and very often cheaper.
i refuse on principle to pay more than $13 USD...i make exceptions occasionally, but only after i've scoured the internet and all the stores i shop at--i don't have a job atm since i'm in school so i have to budget

Peaceville is always putting out lousy digipaks. It's usually a scam to sucker collectors into getting a digipak and jewel case. I see no advantage, unless it's a digipak only rerelease with bonus tracks. Digipaks usually don't fit as well into cd towers as well. That Damnation digipak is pretty rare I believe.

I prefer ltd editions of the jewel cased versions. As far as Inside Out records go, they always have jewel case version of the digipacks with the extra tracks, too. MY versions of Evergrey's Recreation Day, and Symphony X's The Odyssey are two examples.

I wonder who the person was that came up with the digipack because it sucks balls.

i dunno. looks like a cheap ass way to sell a cd to me. the first one i ever had was Still Life. when it came in the mail, i was like, "what the hell is this?"

i know i hate digibooks. thats the kind where its like a little hardcover book with a stupid cardboard folder in the back to F up your cd in. also, the liner notes are not removeable. they tend to bend and break easily too.

am i right that digipack is the one that's a accordian-ish fold up? if so, those suck too because the bend/break easily as well and often lack liner notes.
