just saw a tv-broadcast about a new sennheiser mic wich has a build in digital technology. the claimed that the advantage is very linear frequency response. can anyone give me some more info, or the exact name of the mic?

Well, technically the more linear a response a mic has, I would guess the less "character" it would impose on the recording - so what you'd hear would be as close to a pure-recording of the cabinet as you could get. Maybe?

Whoah, you guys have commercials for audio gear over there? The closest we have to that is...actually we don't ever get commercials about audio gear.

so that "digital" neumann has been out for 7 years...and how many engineers have you seen picking it up?

in the end, this'll probably end up being some sort of fad/marketing BS. even if digital technology ends up working its way into mics more and more often(just like modeling shit has crept its way into so many amps now), you still need physical moving parts to capture the changes in SPL...no amount of 1's and 0's can do that themselves
