I know this has little to do with Evergrey, but maybe there are Pantera/Damageplan fans here who'd care. I just couldn't believe it when I read this. Just total shock.

"Five people died, including the alleged gunman who reportedly jumped on a concert stage and opened fire, NBC 4 reported.
The shooting took place shortly after 10 p.m. at Alrosa Villa, located at 5055 Sinclair Rd.A crowd of about 250 people was inside for a concert by Damageplay, a heavy metal band. Two former members of the band Pantera formed the group. The band took the stage shortly after 10 p.m., and minutes later, a man, who was wearing a hockey jersey and hooded sweatshirt, began firing at point-blank range at least four times at guitarist

Darrell Abbott, who was known as "Dimebag Darrell," was pronounced dead at the scene, NBC 4's Kyle Anderson reported. Police released the names of two others who died. They were Nathan Bray and Erin Halk, both audience members."

Other forums are discussing "the state of metal" and "U.S. gun laws" but I can't see any deeper issure in this then some some f*cking loser, whacko going off. It's just sucks.

Yeah I heard about what happened to Dimebag Darrel, you can read and watch more of it on this link below. Our band Vehemence played at the Al Rosa Villa venue with Decapitated in the summer of 2002, and from what I remember I could step off the stage if I wanted to, you were that close to your fans, they could get close enough to you to flick your ear, or punch your face. Also I remembered that place had no security other than the door guy.

Its unclear still, if this is a conspiracy, or freak psycho incident. I guess this is what happens with rock stars are playing smaller venues; they may think it’s friendly but could lead to many other things like death or assault. I heard the responses from the Howard Stern show.

I met him several times, and got the opportunity to hang out with him for some hours and some minutes each time Pantera or Damangeplan came through Hollywood, or Phoenix, Arizona. It’s a very sad day in metal. He was a good guy, take it from me. – John from Vehemence

I'm not really a Pantera fan, but this...
Why all the violence? This must have been a sick person. It's sad to say, but you see what happens if there is no security. Holy shit. Another blow to the reputation of metal...

R.I.P. Dimebag, i shook your hand at the Damageplan show in Vancouver and never would have thought this is how you'd go. Just another proof that the world is fucked up beyond belief.

Dime is the only reason I began playing guitar, he was my God...
R.I.P.
:headbang: You will be missed! :headbang:

Now Dime is a Cowboy in Hell..

Also...Any news of the other member who was killed? Please do not tell me it was Vinnie...I'll seriously cry if we lost both of the Abbott brothers in the same day...

I touched with one
who made me run
away from my own soul...
In this world with its
many illusions
We are moving like mice through a maze

And now I find
what's left behind
has served to make me whole
full of doubt, deception, and delusion
seeking purpose to all earthly days

I search within
beneath a skin
that bears both pleasure and pain
In a world full of constant confusion
I will not be a par to the craze

In the Afterlife
will dark be bright?
will cold be warm?
will the day have no night?
In the Afterlife?
will the blind have sight?
In the Afterlife.

Behind closed eyes
some comfort lies
In knowing the truth never spoken
Through this world with its
hidden conclusion
we'll keep moving like mice through a maze
In the Afterlife
will dark be bright?
will cold be warm?
will the day have no night?
In the Afterlife?
will the blind have sight?
In the Afterlife.

In the Afterlife
will dark be bright?
will cold be warm?br> will the day have no night?
In the Afterlife?
will the blind have sight?
In the Afterlife.

Charlie Dominici (former Dream Theater vocalist)

PS: "This is not me".

The other person killed, besides two audience members and the shooter, was Mayhem, a crew member; apparently he threw himself on Dimebag to protect him after the shooting started.

Henrik is really taking this hard....Dime was one of his major guitar influences...

It flips me out in terms of the future/ show security.... I always assumed we were safe since we're not in the rap world, you know?

RIP, Darrell Abbott.

 I thought that might be so. So hard to deal with. How do we even begin? You can say how can any performer go on with this threat over their head, but really, look what happened to John Lennon, and then so many others. Psychos can attack performers and any person in the public eye any time, any where, but yet, with terrorrism no one is immune. All I can say is in a crazy, violent world, we all have to live life like it is so precious and without fear and hope, in living so we some how deny evil it's grasp on us. I, for one, will take any step necessary to stop evil from taking control, whether it be fighting politically nationally or locally or just by never giving up and living life as best I can. But really, only through the common bond of humanity, not politics or it's ineffectual offspring will we beat it back. Only through mutual bonding of the "little people", just regular folks who reach out at any desperate moment of tragedy, being there for one another, will we make any difference. If it can ever be done.
