Dimebag's palm muting prowess...

I don't really see the need to run an second noise gate type unit in your rig unless you've got some really noisey pedals in your loop. If you have a properly dialed in noise gate in front of the amp or in the loop you can easily kill all the extra noise. Rackmount ISP decimator does this by design and for the most part, configurations of the BOSS NS-2 (four cable method utilizing the effects loop) also can do it.

dimebag did it because he used a shitload of gain, but still needed it to be tight, as it says on the link above, i agree it might be overkill for most people, but dimebag used some silly amounts of gain

Yes, but Dime used both Hush units to achieve that powerful palm muting sound or so it seems.

That is what I would like to know, if anyone has tried this out for the purpose of 'awesome soundingness'.

dude... i run a similar system to get a hyper tight live sound...super c before the pre and a beringer auto comp in the FX loop (after pre) with the gate set and a might of comp @ 7:1 and the attack set so it makes the impact of the first chug really cut through.... (I know it was unauthodox but it sounded FIRE!) ... had no idea dime used to do it
