Dimmu Borgir- In Sorte Diaboli

reinkaos wasnt boring. it was good, people didnt like it because they changed directions a little bit. it was easier to listen to than the prior albums. I still like the somberlain more.... but i cant say that reinkaos wasnt awesome.

dimmu... the only thing ive heard from them in the last 3 years was burn in hell which they used to play on hard attack all the time.... what a piece of shit.

vortex was the really the saving grace of this band. his vocal style and range are amazing. thats the one positive thing I have to say about this cd.
and yes, its the same triplets at breakneck speed over and over.

I wish vortex would do a solo cd. Not a big fan of his other side projects.

I think Dimmu should just kick Shagrath out of the band and let Simen handle all future vocals. Or at the very least just tell Shagrath to stick to guitar. Simens vocal talent is wasted so badly in that band it makes me sad.

Galdar is a much better guitarist than Shagrath.
I think Shagrath's throat vocals are a little better than Simen's, but all those effects are so irritating. Also when he does that thing where he sort of sounds like he's rasp talking (whatever you call that), I hate that. He sounded great on EDT and SBD, but he went downhill after that
Silenoz and Galdar have much better throat vocals anyway.

I personally love Simen is Arcturus and Lamented Souls, but the Borknagar albums (Quintessence especially) is where he gives my favorite vocal performances. Colossus may have some of my favorite vocals period.

Dimmu live is somewhat of a letdown. The show is kinda cool, but there's very little substance. Vortex isn't the greatest live, either. But then again, it's difficult to play and sing at those levels simultaneously.

Wait. He's a bassist. I take that back.

Vortex isn't so great live.

I haven't seen them in a few years, but the last time I saw them I thought they were pretty good live.

I'm sure this tour I'll be disappointed with the show, being as it will be the new album tour.

The biggest disappointment isn't really their playing or anything...it's quite out of their hands. Unless you carry around an orchestra with you, your songs are left quite flat. Ever heard Progenies without the orchestra? It's boring as shit.

It's not that they are a bad band live; it's simply that they build themselves up a little too much on the albums, and when you see the live show, it's not quite so good. This is why I prefer Spiritual Black Dimensions. A six piece cover band can play it just like the cd.

Wow, never expected that. I really like Progenies due to the orchestra and powerful nature. I prefer older DB, but I never considered them to be black metal so if the new stuff is good, then it's all fine with me. Dimmu Borgir reminds me of a black power metal band. I have no reservations about Dimmu Borgir because they just were never that important to me.

I am a huge fan of Stormblast and For All Tid, and to a lesser extent Enthrone Darkness Triumphant...

Only song that they've done since then, that I've really enjoyed was the Burn in Hell cover. That was so lame it was awesome.

And the only band I would use the term "Black Power Metal" for is Bal-Sagoth.

*Has sudden vision of Will screaming "BLACK POWER!" during their set*
