Dimmu Borgir- In Sorte Diaboli

Just started to listen, ofc not the best album from dimmu, but i can already say that it beats Death cult armageddon :\

It's pretty insulting to even mention Reinkaos along with Monotheist. The former is literally one of the worst albums ever recorded and the latter is probably the greatest comeback album in history.

The reasons why are best stated by Falconsbane's review for it in the Metal Archives.

It's all good and well CF were trying to be creative for their comeback. The problem is, just like when they ended their career the first time, the creativity turns out into a total shitfest (See: Cold Lake & Vanity/Nemesis). Celtic Frost's To Mega Therion and Into the Pandemonium were great. They did what they were good at: Blackened Thrash with 'some' experimentation. They worked out extremely well, and To Mega Therion is one of my favorite albums.

My main problem with Monotheist is the slow pace on trad doom metal. I'm not one to normally bitch about this thing, I love Doom Metal, but my god, it was like you take The Gates of Slumber's The Awakening, slow it down EVEN MORE, and then throw some harsher vocals on it.

So, Monotheist to me is like a really half assed Trad-Doom album...

From what i've heard, it seems less than their best. I was completely blown away by Death Cult Armageddon, the epic scope, and the death/thrash-like elements of the faster songs. In Sorte Diaboli seems less inventive, the songs sounds the same at first listen, and the vocals aren't that great. there are no standout moments like Vredysbyrd, Blessings upon the Throne of Tyranny, or Insight & the Catharsis. The album stays at roughly the same pace throughout. vortex's vocals are great, but they are never used enough (and his lines are always either meaningless or don't match the emotion he's singing with).

BTW Reinkaos had two, maybe three REALLY good melo-death songs, and the rest sucked.

I'll still check it out. I doubt I will be quite as disappointed with this album as I was with Puritanical (although Kings Of Carnival Creation is one of my favorite Dimmu songs).
Shagrath really needs to refrain from all those effects. It is just so irritating. If he can't do the vocals anymore, he should let Silenoz, Galdar and/or Simen either take over, or at least contribute.

i think the new song is pretty cool, i like when they do the high singing parts, im probably going to buy this cd when it comes out

honestly i dont see why everyone hates dimmu so much, whenever i ask someone why they always give bullshit reasons and compare them to CoF, and i cant see how anyone can do that

I THIKN ITS ALL REALly SILLY OF YOU GUYS TO ALL HATE IT SO MUCH FOR NOGOOD RAESON

I just downloaded this album. I can say it is pretty awesome. It has some thrashy and some groovy moments to it. I'm 4 songs into the album now and i really like what i hear. It is not 100%melodic black metal so I see where the elitists are coming from, but this is still an awesome album imho MUch better than death cult armaggedon

I am going to see them on the 26th. Dildodriver and Unearth will suck of course, but I'm really looking forward to Dimmu and Kataklysm
