Well lately I took it upon myself to finally sit down and listen to bands who although I have known about for years, never gotten round to listening to them.

Alice in Chains
Always knew of these guys. Didn't mind some of their songs so giving their albums a good thrashing.

Machine Head
Likewise as with Chains knew of them but never sat down to listen to them. The Blackening is seriously one of the best metal albums of this century. Amazing. I saw them live about 2 weeks ago and they blew me away. Now to get their older stuff.

Judas Priest
Yep can you believe it. I have known of a couple of classic Priest songs for years but never sat through their albums and had a listen. Time to change that. Especially with the rumours of them touring next year down under.

Hatebreed
Saw them live earlier this year and was impressed by their raw live power. Only lately got their albums. Supremecy is absolutely brutal and I love it. Great band.

Dimmu Borgir
Probably the great `find' for me this year. I am totally in love with this band. Simply incredible. Much thanks to ThraxSA for introducing me.

hmm...

Lately I have not been listening to anything new. There is a lot of the old stuff I still dig.
hmm new
Arch Enemy just because angela can sing her ass off..I think she sounds more brutal than that other female singer from OTEP.

Inflames- is another one their style has change though I think to more commercial but they are still cool I think.

Lamb of God- Never really got around to hear them on my own in which I have a friend of who really digs them. To my ears their sound is a little more old thrashy but makes it unique with the vocal styles. They can of remind me just a little of Rigor Mortis. I remember when I first heard them i was like this is brutal music Just like the New American metal of today. I think in my opinion the so called New American Metal of today has been around for sometime now it just never got popular...

Iron Maiden (old)- although they are not thrash but their lates album A matter of life and death kicks major ass.
These guys are very educated in transfering their knowledge into a song form. I would never thought of writting a song about the Manhatten Projects..It's why I have been a fan since 83...

Testament- practice, souls, ritual and low are my fav..I cannot wait for the new album...these guys have been before compared to Metallica..They are not like metallica... they are totally different band.

Metallica- I listen mainly to old stuff..the cliff era albums..It's really a habit I feel very connected with the old stuff.
I feel strong and happy when I listen to it but at the same time it kind of makes me sad because cliff is no longer physically with us..spiritually through his music will always live on... We all in the metal community mess you cliff...cheers...

Iced Earth:
I've known about them for quite awhile, but I've just gotten to listening to them and I think they're awesome. Night of the Stormrider and Horror Show are my faves by them so far... took awhile to get over Matt Barlow-AH! and his singing like this-AH! But I like him now, ha.

Blind Guardian:
A power metal band that I've known about but haven't gotten anything by them until a couple weeks ago. Really catchy, powerful stuff! Imaginations from the Other Side rules.

Ditto on the Judas Priest.

Oh yeah, and Helstar:
Power/thrash with an awesome vocalist and great guitarists. I've heard about them and was intrigued, but never got a chance to give them a listen until quite recently. James Rivera sounds kinda like Joey Belladonna (On Spreading the Disease only) or Eric AK; so ya know. I like his singing a lot. :D

And I agree with db, perhaps Chuck's vox sound similar to James Hetfield's, but I can't find any HUGE similarity between Metallica and Testament.
Alex Skolnick>>>>>>>Kirk Hammett, anyway. :p

I've been digging into some of the old hair and glam bands lately. Some of them were actually great musically, but the image turned away a certain portion of potential fans.

Some bands I've recently re-discovered, if that's even a word! Bands like Little Caesar and The London Quireboys had a cool classic rock sound.

Hard to believe that there are still some people who love metal that don't own any Judas Priest!:OMG: Oh well, at least you're catching up now!:kickass: Which albums are you two starting with?

def agree with aic comment, they are just one of those bands that seem to be popular but u dont know anyone personally thats intothem,i have heard a few songs at most,i judge very quickly and have never bothered with them much,i doubt i ever will

If you like Blind Guardian, try "Nightfall On Middle Earth", not that catchy, but veery good.

Two more german metal-records u must have: "Keeper Of The Seven Keys" (The first one) by Helloween and "Land Of The Free" by Gamma Ray.

More old stuff besides Maiden, Priest, Testament, OLD Metallica (including Justice) I do listen to:

Megadeth, Ozzy (mostly his 80s stuff), Twisted Sister, SAVATAGE!

And even older:

Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix and of course QUEEN, QUEEN, QUEEN!

Hair and glam:

AEROSMITH!!, Cinderella, Quireboys

I don´t think that there is any new band I do listen to. There still is enough old music to discover... One of the more recent discoveries to me where OVERKILL, but that was years ago when they supported Halford on the Resurrection-Tour. I knew them before and liked some of their songs, but never got too deep into them until they blew me away back then as Halfords supporter.

Will do on the Blind Guardian; I also wanna get their first one... 'cause it's got Majesty on it!!! AHHHH AH AH MAJESTYYY!!! :headbang:
*ahem*

And I like some Helloween songs and also Gamma Ray songs; like Gamma Ray better I think. Will do on those reccomendations too. Thanks, dude!

And as for re-discovering music... I've been digging Pink Floyd a lot lately.
And this might be a LITTLE off topic, but I've just discovered that I'm NOT liking Metallica as much as I used to, even though I haven't listened to them for what, a few months?!? o_O

Helloween when Kai Hansen was in the group were absolutely brilliant. Listen to Cellador too - spooky how much the vocalist sounds like Kiste.

i can't think of that many bands i discovered in the last year. probably
mastodon
nevermore
post 1990 jeff beck(always had a lot of his pre 1990 stuff)
scum of the earth

Was never too much of a fan of bands with vocalists that sound TOO much like another one. For instance, Geoff Tate might've sounded a LITTLE bit like Rob Halford, but he wasn't a dead ringer for him or anything, while there's this vocalist in this band Astral Doors or something like that who sounds nearly EXACTLY like Dio and I was like "WHAAAAAT?!?! :zombie:" If you know what I mean.

I'll still check 'em out though; who knows.

BTW: for people who like a more thrash/trad. approach to power metal, I recommend:
-Destiny's End (James Rivera's band after Helstar, which is just as smexellent.)
-Tad Morose (Annoying vox, but you get used to 'em)
-Twisted Tower Dire

i never thought tate sounded like halford. to be honest tate had a much more diverse voice and a better range as far as emotion goes. halford still is the best metal singer ever but he can't sing a lot of stuff tate sings like "someone else" and "silent lucidity"

Speaking of Queensryche - I just got Mindcrime at the Moore - and I still haven't had a chance to watch it (thanks to a very busy schedule) ... dying to see it!

I basically said he KIND of sounded like Halford, ESPECIALLY on the Warning album. But just a LITTLE bit. He's definitely the technically better vocalist, I'm just saying there's similarities between the two. (Geoff should've covered "Dreamer Deceiver" back when his live voice was phenomenal... that would've been INSANELY awesome...)

And to the post above me, MOST Greenday sucks, but I admit to liking the first two albums... heh heh. Guilty pleasures of mine.

I've recently rediscovered how much Greenday sucks!

recently ?

they've sucked since day one. if you were ever into any old school punk from the late 70's to mid 80's you would have known what a joke green day was/is.

if you like green day then pick up a "living end" cd and hear what green day might sound like if those idiots could play their instruments and write better songs.

or do yourself a favor and pick up a 6 pack and the latest "street dogs" disc :kickass:

I hate greenday they are way too commericial and annoying...o_O
I even hate offspring..both bands should hold hands, isolate themselves from music and make video gay porn..
