Distorted Bass As Solo Instrument

Ok there's the DI - I realise there was a mistake at the end of that section there but I had been tracking guitar 8 hours that day and I really wasnt planning on keeping any of these bass takes cos I didn't like the starting sound.

Just for shits and giggles here's the same bass mixed in the rest of the song with guitars and shit on a section I'm quite digging -

Thinking distortion is the wrong thing to use here - TSE X50 just sounded really grainy and I should maybe go for a fuzz or something, I would go for a Rat or something if I had the cash but I am not getting a lot of money for this one and the bassist is the only member in this band that is pretty tight fisted so that is out the window. (Did download Juicy77 tho so probably will go for a test run with that later.)

I do the distorted bass solo thing a lot and use a boss mt-2 and it seems to turn out pretty well. So I ran the di through a metalzone and into the amplitube GK amp sim and this is what it sounds like, for what its worth.

Edit: Thanks Audiosprite!

I've always adored the bass tone in this track. I'm not sure how much this will help you because I don't have any details of the recording process, but just listening might give you an idea of what you want to do. It's a solo bass with some drums and sound effects. Sounds like a single bass track split into LP/HP with the HP having some kind of nice fuzz box on it.

Here's what I managed with your bass DI. I doubled it and ran each one through a seperate instance of Guitar Rig 4 using the BassPro amp model. The distorted signal is HPed around 350hz and the clean is LPed at 3k. I used the "Demon Distortion" module in Guitar Rig for the fuzz. I made sure the "Room" mix was about halfway on each one to give it a little more openness. I think it sounds decently fat.

Thanks for the attempts lads, think the last one is getting closer, although I agree the tone in the youtube clip is tasty and a bit more what I had in my head.
