I've decided to try and mic my djembe drum for the first time. I tried it with one MXL 990 and then another test with one sm57. I tried to keep the mic positioning the same for the two mics for a fair comparison. What do you think? I found it hard to mic it with the 57 because it would make it fart out if I wasn't careful with the positioning. Also doesnt help that my house is 100 years old and shakes everytime I hit the damn drum!
I applied some minor eq, compression with a psp vintage warmer. The first is the MXL 990 then the SM57 after the pause. Which do you prefer? I had issues with noise with the 57 as well. I'm worried now that something may be wrong with it. Although when I did other tests I've never heard noise like that.
