Djent- what the fuck is it?

I was told djent is an onomatopoeia. Is it pronounced dee-jent?

I'm big into a lot of the Swed and Fin metal (In flames, Bodom, Kalmah, Zonaria, Wintersun etc) but listening to Bulb/Periphery has put a new twist on my liking
to style/playing/tone etc. But I still fucking love lead work.

I've heard it's more gear rather then playing style. Anyways can someone fill me in on what exactly it is and such.

It's a description for a certain sound as I understand it. Think Meshuggah, Bulb... ext..

It's a kind of 'give' a tone has in response to palm mutes. It really does sound like 'djent' - it's onomatopoeia.

i'd say it is more of a playing style, as what's really happening is an interrupted chugga...you palm mute & then mute with your left hand

Meshuggah's "Gods of Rapture" of None at the 3:20 mark is the definitive definition of Djent for me.
