DMP3 Preamp?

Same...first pre I ever bought way back when.

Only if the 001 pres are noticable inferior to most others. I don't really know anything about the 001.
The DMP-3 is nice for the money, but probably not a very noticable improvement unless you've got a noisy or otherwise ugly sounding pre. It is nice and clean and has lots of gain.
Let's put it this way, I personally think you'd have to spend alot to get noticably better than a DMP-3. Can that be said about the 001?

I don't think it will net a huge improvment. Pres make a diffrence but not as much as people think . Espically when there listening enviroment is not up to par and there AD/DA convertors are lacking. I don't know what the rest of your setup is though. Do you care to share that info with us?

Sorry, j/k...was busy at work earlier. I'm using Alesis M1mkII monitors with my 001 and ptle. The room i monitor in is pretty bad, lots of open space there.

I think the biggest weakness in my recordings is a very poor midrange. I'm sure some of that is due to my monitoring situation. But it could be the 001 as well.

Would suggest that you address the monitoring situation before you start shelling out cash on new preamps. It's free :D

Simply moving monitors away from walls and not having them directly facing walls can make a lot of difference.

I agree 100% with sparkyness. I don't think in the situation you are in that you are going to hear a huge diffrence if any at al (unless the 001's are complete crap). A microphone swap will make a much bigger diffrence then a pre anyday. Shit even moving a mic will.

HA! mee too! Been a while since I've recorded with it.....but it was great! Especially for the money.

Now I just use it for an intercom system between Control Room and Tracking Room.....just cut the phantom on/off as a switch!:goggly: Been working great for 3 years strong:notworthy

I am researching this unit now. After reading up on a few mainstream :) reamping threads I check the specs carefully. How does the 100K input impedance seem with your set up. Do you experience any drawbacks of it being lower than the seemingly commonly accepted 1M ?

I guess now you're a happy owner of FireFace 400 - which boast high qaulity mic and line inputs. Do you still use DMP3 with FireFace 400 ?

Thanks in advance for your response - sorry for digging up a (seemingly) old thread :)

Hey Vit....got your PM.

I'm not finding much use for the DMP3 days for exact reason you state....am happy with the mic pres on the FF400 for what I need right now. I bought the DMP3 before I picked up the Fireface so it's gathering dust at the moment. I may dig it out for some vocal stuff soon though. IIRC someone did some tech comparisons on Gearslutz and the difference in quality between the preamps on the FF and the DMP3 were nominal.

On some recent recordings I briefly compared the FF pres to the DMP3 and found there was a colouration on the DMP3 on DI'd bass tracks that I wasn't too happy with. It seemed to suck a little bit of the lows out compared to running the DI box (J48) straight into the Fireface instead of via the DMP3 unit. Could have been a phantom power issue, but not sure.

I don't use the instrument input on the FF as a DI like some do......it doesn't seem to like the high output of my EMG's on my ESP Horizon or the Bartolinis on my J-Bass. Very happy with my Radial J48 and Sansamp BDDI.
