im rearranging my basement and i am wondering which route to go for recording drums. typically i sample replace my drums but keep live overheads

does anyone have a/b recordings that show drums recorded on carpet and drums that was recorded on tile or hardwood.

the only way to go, bro.

You will need the carpet in almost any case because the kick drum moves a lot and the carpet prevents that!

i said tile because in my basement i already have vinyl tile down. i was just wondering if it was better to have a carpet under the drums or if its good to get reflections from the floor

Ultimately you will need the carpet unless you want to scar your floor from the kick drum legs. Aside from scarring, the kick will be sliding around without a carpet as well.
