yes, it is the name of the city of the moon in one of wilbur smith's books. akerfeldt added the "h" to the end of the word only.

I think I read that the band was originally called "Opet", but some guy in a studio (or something ) pronounced it wrong as "Opeth", and they preffered it like that.
