In its 228 year history, the United States has not once postponed or cancelled an election. Through wars abroad, insurrection, civil war, disease, natural disasters and economic collapse, the democratic process has carried on. To even propose the idea of postponing the election is preposterous and the ultimate fear-mongering tactic.
If the president is, as he says, an optimist and a beacon of hope, he would, instead of looking at ways to postpone the election, be strategizing to ensure that the elections take place on time no matter what.
